Gamers are about to discover their new favourite, with a unique and original title Omochapon, coming to Nintendo Switch on 8th August 2024.
Created by Melbourne-based indie developer ShawnTheMiller & published by Rainmaker Productions, this cozy game will deliver a little packet of fun for gamers, toy collectors and Japanese pop culture buffs alike.
Set in a Japanese mall, Omochapon is a 3D puzzle platformer. In this wholesome 3D puzzle adventure, gamers can drive, jump, roll, glide and collect all their little capsule toy companions with adorable characters featured, making it the perfect companion for everyone.
For each new toy unlocked, players will gain abilities to explore the world and find new companions, all with the goal of escaping the mall to the outside world.
After 20 years in gaming, animation and VFX, and creating content for some of the biggest studios in the industry, including Industrial Light & Magic, LucasFilm Animation, EA and more, Shawn Miller founded his indie studio ShawnTheMiller in 2022 to take his experience and develop original IPs.
As a first-time solo developer, Shawn is thrilled to now be releasing Omochapon, following a successful development period, the studio is now preparing to deliver on more exciting titles soon to be announced.
“After 3 years of working on this title, I’m extremely excited to be bringing Omochapon to Nintendo Switch. A wholesome game, Omochapon incorporates capsule toy culture and casual gameplay mechanics for everyone to enjoy,” said Shawn.
“As a solo developer, Omochapon is an initial step in the transition to a truly independent studio and having a holistic understanding of the process. Having worked on such a wide range of titles and delivered on so many products in the past, it was time to start developing new and unique IP’s myself,” he continued.
Rainmaker Productions CEO Joseph Chou - who is also the executive producer of the upcoming Rick and Morty: The Anime - said, “Shawn’s vision and passion for Omochapon was something we couldn’t help but notice. His extensive career as a professional animator showed his dedication to his craft, and you can see that shine through in his game development as well. We are excited for this release!”
With the added support of VicScreen & Rainmaker Productions, ShawnTheMiller will also be bringing Omochapon to Gamescom 2024 Cologne this August, followed with Pax Australia in October, for Gamers to experience IRL.
Omochapon can be purchased via the Nintendo website here and is fully compatible with the Nintendo Switch console.
