Alison Newman confronts postnatal depression with, ‘Pieces Of My Pain’, unveiling a dark pop journey of pain and recovery

Maestro Media < 1 mins read

Alison Newman first experienced postnatal depression soon after the birth of her first child but did not seek help at the time. In 2015, after experiencing an incredibly traumatic birth resulting in an emergency C-section and PTSD after the birth of her second child, Newman sought the support of health professionals, medication, and family. It was through her recovery that Newman wrote her 5-track EP, 'WOLF,' which delves into the uncomfortable subject of postnatal depression.

Newman's EP tells the story of her experience with postnatal depression, with each track covering different elements or experiences in her journey. This third track, 'Pieces Of My Pain', shares her recovery journey as she returns to her everyday life.

'WOLF' was produced in Spain and Argentina, with Newman's vocals recorded at home in Mt Gambier, South Australia. The tracks are dark pop featuring melodramatic sounds, effects to set the scene, and layered vocals and harmonies to add depth to the storytelling.

'Pieces Of My Pain', will be available in across all music streaming platforms including AMRAP from date of release, Friday 30 August, 2024.
