Alison Newman confronts postnatal depression with, ‘Pieces Of My Pain’, unveiling a dark pop journey of pain and recovery

Maestro Media < 1 mins read

Alison Newman first experienced postnatal depression soon after the birth of her first child but did not seek help at the time. In 2015, after experiencing an incredibly traumatic birth resulting in an emergency C-section and PTSD after the birth of her second child, Newman sought the support of health professionals, medication, and family. It was through her recovery that Newman wrote her 5-track EP, 'WOLF,' which delves into the uncomfortable subject of postnatal depression.

Newman's EP tells the story of her experience with postnatal depression, with each track covering different elements or experiences in her journey. This third track, 'Pieces Of My Pain', shares her recovery journey as she returns to her everyday life.

'WOLF' was produced in Spain and Argentina, with Newman's vocals recorded at home in Mt Gambier, South Australia. The tracks are dark pop featuring melodramatic sounds, effects to set the scene, and layered vocals and harmonies to add depth to the storytelling.

'Pieces Of My Pain', will be available in across all music streaming platforms including AMRAP from date of release, Friday 30 August, 2024.

School holidays no longer provide mental health protection for Victorian adolescents

New researchas found that school holidays, which previously provided a protective buffer against suicidal and self-harm behaviours in adolescents, no longer have this effect in the post-pandemic era. Using data from the National Ambulance Surveillance System (NASS), Turning Point and Monash University researchers analysed 20,635 ambulance attendances for suicidal and self-harm behaviours among adolescents aged 12-17 across Victoria. The study found significant reductions in crisis attendances during school holidays before COVID-19. However, lead author and Turning Point Research Fellow Dr Ryan Baldwin said this protective pattern was no longer observed in the years following the pandemic. "Prior to COVID-19, we…

EQ Method: The Emotional Intelligence Guru Changing Women’s Lives Worldwide Perth, Australia — Marcia Colosi’s story begins far from boardrooms and global coaching stages. Born into poverty in Peru and adopted at the age of five, her early life was defined by uncertainty, resilience and the instinct to survive. A move to Canada introduced new opportunity, and later Australia became the place where her academic and professional ambitions flourished. On paper, her life reflected success. Internally, however, she felt a growing disconnection a quiet sense that achievement alone was not fulfilment. That realisation became the turning point that would shape…
