AUSTRALIAN ICON MELISSA DOYLE SHINES AT STEPS GRAND WINTER BALL

STEPS Group Australia < 1 mins read

The annual STEPS Grand Winter Ball, hosted by the beloved Australian media personality Melissa Doyle, brought the Sunshine Coast community together for a night of excitement and generosity.

This year’s event raised an impressive $299,000 to support young people with a disability and autism to achieve lifelong independence, thanks to generous contributions from guests, sponsors, and donors.

Presented by Ken Mills Toyota, the STEPS Grand Winter Ball is the major fundraising event for Australia's first and only independence education program, STEPS Pathways College.

The College has taken an innovative approach to tackling independence inequality by ensuring young people with disabilities and autism learn the holistic skills needed to achieve and maintain independence.

Carmel Crouch, STEPS managing director and founder of STEPS Pathways College said she was overwhelmed with the support received at this year’s Grand Winter Ball.

“We know that these young people can be more, do more, and achieve more in life, and it’s so wonderful to have the community stand with us and help us make this a reality for our students, and all young people with a disability and autism,” Ms Crouch said.

STEPS Pathways College is dedicated to empowering young people with disabilities and autism, giving them the chance to dream big and achieve their goals.

All funds raised at the Ball go directly to STEPS Pathways College, helping young adults with disabilities and autism gain the education, skills, and support they need to live independent and fulfilling lives.

ENDS.

Richest 1% burn through their annual carbon limit in just 10 days

The richest 1 percent have burned through their share of the annual global carbon budget —the amount of CO2 that can be added to the atmosphere without pushing the world beyond 1.5°C of warming— within the first 10 days of 2025, reveals new Oxfam analysis. In stark contrast, it would take someone from the poorest half of the global population nearly three years (1022 days) to use up their share of the annual global carbon budget. This alarming milestone, dubbed “Pollutocrat Day” by Oxfam, underscores how climate breakdown is disproportionately driven by the super-rich, whose emissions far exceed those of…

Boxing Day Tsunami 20 years on: Plan International Australia remembers global solidarity

Twenty years on from the devastating Boxing Day tsunami, Plan International Australia remembers the global solidarity that emerged from tragedy. December 26 marks 20 years since the Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, which claimed the lives of 230,000 people and left 1.7 million homeless on Boxing Day 2004. The earthquake struck 150km off the coast of Aceh, Indonesia. It was the most powerful the world had seen in a generation. Plan International raised US$47.3 million to assist affected people and communities focusing on childcare, education, healthcare, housing, water, sanitation, psychosocial support, livelihoods, and child protection. During this time, Plan and…
