Australia’s Largest Feline-Focused Festival Claws Into A Brand-New Home At Melbourne Showgrounds

Tide Communications 3 mins read

Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 October 2024

After the roaring success of the 2022 sold-out event, the Cat Lovers Festival will make its long-awaited return to Melbourne this October at its new home of Melbourne Showgrounds. The exciting new location and reinvigorated program will take place alongside the much-loved Dog Lovers Festival, marking the organisers’ first co-located events in Victoria.

Expanding into the Melbourne Showgrounds, the Cat Lovers Festival will educate, inspire and entertain cat parents with the latest line-up of attractions including the brand-new WHISKAS® Kitty Corner, the return of an even bigger Championship Cat Show, getting up close and paw-sonal at the BlackHawk® Pat-A-Cat Zone, a sprawling kitty supermarket, plus a suite of other crowd-favourites.

“We are thrilled to return to Melbourne at our exciting new venue, the Melbourne Showgrounds. Building on the success of our 2022 event, we couldn’t wait to arrive with our expanded program, and with our allocation of early bird tickets selling out in less than 72 hours it’s clear that Melburnians share our enthusiasm! We encourage all kitty fans to purchase their tickets quickly online to avoid missing out on the ultimate pet lovers weekend.” said Festival Founder, Jason Humphris.

Humphris continues: “Given that many Australians are proud pet parents to both cats and dogs, hosting the Cat Lovers Festival and the Dog Lovers Festival side by side provides a unique opportunity for visitors to enjoy the best of both worlds in a convenient and accessible format. While dogs can freely mingle in the community, you don’t always get to be up close and personal with a range of different cats! This event offers a rare chance for cat lovers to experience over 200 cats in one place. It promises to be the ultimate day out for all pet enthusiasts!”

UNSW experts available to comment on social media age limit

Associate Professor Susanne Schweizer from the School of Psychology is available to comment on the social media age limit. A/Prof. Schweizer’s work focuses on how social media impacts youth cognition and emotional development and mental health.A/Prof. Schweizer says, “Research on social influence suggests a social media ban could be the silver bullet, or backfire terribly. If a ban is rigorously implemented it could offer young people who are sensitive to the effects of social media a reprieve from its pressures. Unfortunately, it will also remove opportunities for connection for highly vulnerable groups, such as young people from certain minority groups…
