OzFish Unlimited 2 mins read

Victorian recreational anglers and freshwater fish enthusiasts are invited to the latest Fish Talk event in Echuca on Thursday 24th of October. Fishing conservation charity OzFish are delivering the event alongside the Victorian Fishing Authority (VFA) and will feature a talented lineup of guest speakers.

John Conallin will share his knowledge and passion for threatened small-bodied native fish species, while Colby Lesko and Gage Wright from Spin Wright lures will enlighten the audience with their experiences on targeting Murray cod across the Murray Darling Basin region. The forum will also feature a special presentation from John Cahill, who will reveal the exotic secrets in targeting recreational fish species in Oman (Middle East) and from Iain Ellis on the topic of, What’s the go with flow? Why it’s needed for native fish to thrive in the Murray Darling Basin.

The roadshow is a free community event and will commence from 6.30pm at Echuca Worker Club. The roadshows aim to raise awareness about habitat restoration and freshwater fish in the Murray Darling Basin.

The event is an on-going commitment from Victorian Fisheries Authority and OzFish to run a series of Fish Talks, set to travel through northern Victorian over the next year, with events marked for Bendigo and Swan Hill early next year.

Emphasising the importance of maintaining healthy environments for native fish, the forum will discuss recent conservation success stories, and share opportunities for individuals to contribute to restoration initiatives.

OzFish Murray-Darling Basin Senior Program Manager Braeden Lampard said, “We know that the community are keen to hear more about our native fish, and how we can continue to improve the waterways with effective conservation measures.”

“We aim to make these Fish Talk forums all about community, with the lineup of speakers providing targeted freshwater fish information, tips, and fishing tales.”

“OzFish are excited to host such a talent of guest speakers, who are often the starting point to kickstarting aquatic restoration projects.”

“One of the key items for discussion is to update the community on how they can get involved with OzFish projects, and to demonstrate that improving our waterways benefits everyone.”

Treasurer must levy big coal and gas corporations to fund climate disasters Make Big Polluters Pay

Climate disasters are projected to cost the federal budget $6.3 billion in the upcoming mid-year economic forecast this week. The Treasurer should follow public opinion and ensure coal and gas corporations responsible for most climate pollution pay for these costs, rather than forcing ordinary taxpayers to shoulder the burden, according to the Make Big Polluters Pay alliance. Climate disasters already cost the economy $38 billion each year, with households, communities, local governments and small businesses paying to recover from extreme weather. These impacts are also driving up insurance premiums, food prices and household bills. Deloitte projects disaster costs will exceed…
