CIMIC’s Broad Construction to build Rockhampton Hospital Adult Mental Health Inpatient Unit

CPB Contractors’ subsidiary Broad Construction, a member of the CIMIC Group, has been selected by Queensland Health to build the new Rockhampton Hospital Adult Mental Health Inpatient Unit building as part of a significant expansion and refurbishment project.

The new Adult Mental Health Inpatient Unit building project is being delivered as part of the Queensland State government’s long‐term building replacement strategy within the larger Queensland Health Big Build program. With a commitment to expand health services in the region, these works will increase capacity at the hospital to a total of 32 beds, consisting of 25 general acute beds, and seven high‐dependency beds.

CIMIC Group Executive Chairman Juan Santamaria said: “Broad Construction is experienced in building world‐class health facilities, and we’re pleased to bring this to the Queensland Health Big Build. This state‐of‐the‐art facility will provide high quality treatment and care to more people in the growing Central Queensland community.”

Broad Construction General Manager Cyril Cahill said: “Working with Queensland Health, our expert team will prioritise the needs of the hospital staff, patients and community to safely deliver a new mental health facility for the region, while ensuring minimal disruption to the daily operations of the hospital. We look forward to maximising the local social and economic benefits with a focus on creating employment, training and business opportunities for the community.”

The Rockhampton Hospital Adult Mental Health Inpatient Unit project includes a new 32‐bed acute mental health building, the decommissioning of the existing high‐dependency and low-dependency units, a refurbished clinical administration and support unit, staff and visitor parking, co-located therapy spaces and support system upgrades.

Works on the Rockhampton Hospital Adult Mental Health Inpatient Unit are due for completion in October 2026.
