LUZIA by Cirque du Soleil is the perfect Father’s Day present

Opening in Brisbane just weeks after Father’s Day, LUZIA takes audiences on a fantastical journey through a vibrant world filled with wonders, playfulness and artistry, as well as incredible visual surprises and breathtaking acrobatic performances.
Written and directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca, LUZIA cleverly brings to the stage multiple places, faces and sounds of Mexico taken from both tradition and modernity. Rich in awe-inspiring moments, LUZIA enchants by incorporating rain into acrobatic and artistic scenes – a first for a Cirque du Soleil touring production.

1. Dad will LUZIA His Mind Over This Big Top 🎪
Prepare for your Dad to be WOWED from the minute he spots the famous blue and yellow Big Top because this is no ordinary tent! Here’s some cool facts to bombard Dad with: the Big Top seats more than 2,600 people. The entire site set-up takes 8 days, this includes the installation of the Big Top, the Concessions Tent, the VIP Tents and the rehearsal spaces. The Big Top stands at 19 metres high and is 51 metres in diameter. The four steel masts are 25 metres tall each. 550 pegs are required to hold the big top firmly to 48,500 square feet of asphalt. And the Big Top can withstand winds up to 120 km/h 😍
2. It’s Really Funny – Dad Can Learn Some New Jokes!
The humor in Luzia is accessible and engaging, with comedic acts like the water-filled contortionist who surprises the audience with unexpected splashes, and the clumsy lifeguard who hilariously fumbles with an inflatable pool toy. Dad will laugh his head off. The joyfulness is truly wonderful.
3. There’s a Football Dance!
Dads won’t believe the skill in this show, and especially in this act! Football (that would be called Soccer in Queensland 🙃) is highly celebrated in Mexico and in this act two men try to out-skill each other. They make the ball bounce, roll and spin using their knees, feet, soles and the back of their neck. Trust us, Dad will love this and will probably try it at home!!
4. Ingenious Engineering and Mechanics
The Giant Marionette Horse is a marvel of puppetry and engineering, moving with lifelike precision. Dads who enjoy tinkering with machines or appreciate the intricacies of engineering will be captivated by the ingenuity behind the realistic movements.
5. There’s Gob-Smacking Acrobatic Performances!
Incredible acrobatic acts like the high-speed Cyr wheel with artists spinning across the stage, the gravity-defying hand-balancing act and the unbelievable contortionist will leave Dad’s jaw on the ground.

The show incorporates water into the acrobatic acts – a first for a Cirque du Soleil touring production. There is a stunning sequence where a curtain of rain falls on the stage, creating a canvas for breathtaking projections and aerialists perform as rain cascades around them. 7. There’s Very Cool Storytelling…
The show is an adventure through a fantastical version of Mexico. Imagine a giant, friendly jaguar puppet having fun with acrobats, a dreamy forest that glows under the moon, scuba diving in the air, and a sudden rainstorm that magically turns into a sunny desert. It’s perfect for big (and little) imaginations.
8. It’s Full of Cultural and Historical Richness
Luzia’s exploration of Mexican culture, through acts like the Papantla Flyers-inspired Pole Dance, offers a rich cultural experience that history-loving dads will appreciate.
