AUSTRALIA, 17 August, 2024 –  With medical weight management becoming more widespread, some experts are underscoring the importance of behaviour change through nutrition tracking and its role in achieving long-term, sustainable outcomes with weight loss medications.

In an effort to help support Aussies with their health and wellness while on a medical weight loss program, the number one global food and nutrition tracking app, MyFitnessPal, has introduced a variety of new tools and content to support the health and wellness of their members. Members can track their weight and weight loss progress, and now also when they take their medication, to encourage compliance.

Alongside tracking capabilities, MyFitnessPal also launched a free recipe collection and in-app Nutrition Plan developed for members on GLP-1 medications developed by their team of registered dietitians with the guidance of MyFitnessPal’s Scientific Advisory Council. MyFitnessPal built the free in-app plan in response to a survey2 that found 34% of the people say they would benefit from regular updates or content about GLP-1 medications as related to nutrition. Members also have access to a library of exercise videos to help maintain muscle.

“Conscious behavioural and nutrition changes are a critical component for people on GLP-1 medications to enable sustainable health improvements for the long-term,” said Dr. Danielle Belardo, founder of Precision Preventive Cardiology and member of MyFitnessPal’s Scientific Advisory Council. “Staying consistent with medications is step one, but focusing on good quality nutrition while on GLP-1s is a critical part of the patient journey – and tracking helps them stay aware of that.”

MyFitnessPal members taking GLP-1 medications for weight loss can also use the app to keep track of their hydration levels throughout the day, and engage in discussions on the MyFitnessPal community forums with members who share their experiences and leverage one another for additional support.

To further support Australians on their journey to achieve long-term sustainable health outcomes, MyFitnessPal has also announced its strategic partnership with national virtual care platform Medmate today.

This first of its kind partnership in Australia aims to measure and monitor the efficacy of combining clinician led weight loss treatment and nutrition tracking with MyFitnessPal for more sustainable results.  This opportunity emphasises how leveraging technology and clinical expertise can enhance health outcomes for Australians.

Medmate is the first telehealth clinic to partner with MyFitnessPal, offering a comprehensive weight management solution inclusive of leveraging tracking for sustainable behaviour change. “Since the launch of our clinician led weight management program, our members have utilised MyFitnessPal to ensure they are meeting their daily nutritional needs––something that can be quite difficult for a majority of patients,” says Dr. Ganesh Naidoo, General Practitioner and Medmate Co-Founder & CEO. “We’re thrilled to officially partner and evaluate the real-world impact and benefits of using MyFitnessPal while on a clinical treatment, and how it can positively impact the health outcomes of the Australian population.”

Medmate members will receive a free 1-year premium subscription to MyFitnessPal, valued at $79.99. For more information on MyFitnessPal, visit www.myfitnesspal.com or download the app for free via the App Store or Google Play
