HSU Statement

Health Services Union < 1 mins read

Lloyd Williams, HSU National Secretary said:

“The broader Health Services Union is horrified by the charges that have been laid by the Fair Work Commission against Diana Asmar and six other individuals from the Health Workers Union. Our union has no tolerance for misuse of members funds and it’s important to specify that this is isolated to the Victoria Health Workers Union branch. The Union’s national executive has consistently sought to stand Diana Asmar aside while this investigation has been underway.

“The Union’s legal representatives will spend the next few days examining the best way to continue our efforts to swiftly restore this branch of the Union to full integrity, with a robust focus on its 16,000 hard working members.”

"By explicitly holding employers responsible when AI and digital systems harm workers, NSW is setting a proper standard for workplace safety in the digital age.” The legislation addresses critical gaps identified in parliamentary inquiries regarding work intensification and the psychological risks of automated decision-making. Under the new laws, employers…

‘Drama must end’ – Gupta must take deal to save Tahmoor

The Miners’ Union is calling on Sanjeev Gupta to take a serious offer for Tahmoor Colliery that would allow the mine to restart soon, with its existing workforce. Alternatively, creditors must insist that the mine is put into liquidation, to force a quick sale, said Mining and Energy Union South West District President Bob Timbs. The Australian newspaper reported today that scandal-plagued Gupta has rejected a $350 million bid from mining contractor RStar to buy the mine. RStar is a major contractor to Tahmoor mine and the employer of 250 workers who are currently stood down without pay while the…
