Local Community to Benefit from New Radiology Provider at Bass Coast Health

Imaging Associates 3 mins read

Imaging Associates, a leading name in Australian medical imaging, has been awarded the radiology contract at Bass Coast Health (BCH), the largest public healthcare provider in Victoria’s Bass Coast Shire. This agreement marks a significant advancement in medical imaging for the region.

As part of this contract, Imaging Associates will provide a comprehensive range of medical imaging services to Bass Coast Health, including the installation of the latest state-of-the-art equipment, operated by their expert team at Wonthaggi Hospital, and the new Phillip Island Community Hospital. This partnership brings advanced medical imaging closer to local communities, thereby reducing the need for patients to travel to larger metropolitan centres for diagnostic services.

Imaging Associates has extensive experience providing radiology services to public hospitals, having successfully retained contracts with Eastern Health, Murrumbidgee Local Health District and more recently Peninsula Health. They also support Gippsland Southern Health Service in nearby Leongatha and Korumburra Hospitals and have established private radiology practices in Melbourne, Gippsland (VIC) and Wagga Wagga (NSW).

Bass Coast Health CEO Jan Child said the health service was extremely pleased to welcome Imaging Associates to the community.

“The Imaging Associates partnership will deliver expanded services for our community at Wonthaggi Hospital and Phillip Island Community Hospital, bringing state-of-the-art technology and infrastructure to the region,” she said.

“We welcome and congratulate Imaging Associates for their comprehensive and innovative vision for Radiology services in the Bass Coast community.  We know this partnership will support high-quality care, closer to home”.

Key highlights of the partnership between Imaging Associates and BCH include:

  • The introduction of a diagnostic mammography service at Wonthaggi Hospital, complemented by an upgrade to existing mammography equipment. BreastScreen services will continue to be offered at Wonthaggi Hospital, ensuring continuity of care for patients.
  • A new low-dose cardiac-capable CT scanner at Wonthaggi Hospital.

The partnership comes at an opportune time as BCH’s newly developed hospital site at Wonthaggi Hospital continues to expand.

With Stage 1 opening in December 2022 and planning for Stage 2 expansion underway, including a new MRI facility within the radiology department, Imaging Associates will play a pivotal role in supporting BCH’s growth and development.

“Imaging Associates is honoured to be selected as the radiology partner for Bass Coast Health,” said Dr Chris Holden, Chairperson at Imaging Associates.

"We are dedicated to providing exceptional imaging services that prioritise patient outcomes and support the healthcare needs of the community. This partnership represents a significant milestone in our commitment to expanding access to cutting-edge medical imaging technology throughout the region."

Monash Expert: DNA doesn’t lie – the implications of genetic screening for adult disease prevention

Dr Jane Tiller, who is research co-lead of Monash University’sDNA Screen program, last night appeared on anSBS Insight program about DNA testing, whichraises a number of issues around genetic testing. Dr Tiller introduced DNA Screen, a pilot study of preventive genetic screening in young adults, for prevention of certain cancers and heart disease. This study, completed in 2024, tested 10,000 18-40-year-olds, finding over 200 at-risk individuals. Most of these were not eligible for publicly-funded genetic testing, and would have remained unaware of their risk if not for the DNA Screen study. Dr Tiller was joined on the program by Sammi,…
