Monash expert: share hire e-scooter bans

Monash University < 1 mins read

Associate Professor Alexa Delbosc from the Monash Institute of Transport Studies is available to discuss Melbourne City Council's proposal to remove the CBD e-scooter share hire scheme by mid-September. She says the lack of safe bike paths can be attributed to riders increasingly using footpaths.

The following quotes can be attributed to Associate Professor Delbosc:

"E-scooters provide connections across the inner city in places where there are no convenient public transport connections, when the trams are packed full, or when the trains aren't running at all.

“If the council provided more safe, separated bicycle infrastructure there would be far fewer conflicts between pedestrians and scooters. A recent survey we conducted showed that only 10 per cent of bikes and scooters were ridden on the footpath on Latrobe Street, which has a wide separated bike lane. That jumped to 23 per cent of bikes and scooters riding on the footpath on Flinders Street which has no bike lane at all. Can you blame people for riding on the footpath when they're given no other safe option?"

Critical gaps in Productivity Commission’s assessment of EV tax incentive

Statement from the National Automotive Leasing and Salary Packaging Association (NALSPA) chief executive Rohan Martin responding to the Productivity Commission’s final report ‘Investing in cheaper, cleaner energy and the net zero transformation’: “It’s disappointing to see the Productivity Commission overlook the benefits of the FBT exemption for electric vehicles. We reject their recommendation outright. This is a policy that is demonstrably effective and is working exactly as the Parliament intended in driving EV uptake. “Without the FBT exemption we would have far fewer new and second-hand EVs on Australian roads. Significant barriers to EV adoption remain, but for thousands of…
