NAREMBURN LOCAL CENTRE REVITALISED

Willoughby City Council 2 mins read

The Albanese Government continues to partner with Willoughby City Council to deliver high-priority local road and community infrastructure projects, with upgrades to the Naremburn streetscape on Sydney’s lower north shore officially complete.

The $1.3 million project – supported by over $751,000 from the Albanese Government under the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program, and over $563,000 from Willoughby City Council, has transformed the Naremburn local centre.

This includes more public space and seating, improved tree canopy cover, and changes to traffic flow, which will allow safer access for pedestrians, cyclists and bus passengers.

These upgrades will provide a major boost for local businesses heading into the warmer months – supporting expanded open-air dining options.

Increased pedestrian flow will also encourage businesses to create new visitor experiences, which will enhance business identification and boost the local economy.

Quotes attributable to Federal Minister for Local Government, Kristy McBain:

“It’s fantastic to see the Naremburn streetscape upgrades complete, unlocking new economic opportunities for local businesses, and reimagining how Sydney’s lower north shore community can keep connected.

“It’s a real testament to what we can achieve when we partner with local government and local communities to deliver the improvements they want to get off the ground.

“This is just one of many projects we’re delivering with Willoughby City Council, as part of over $3.8 million in LRCI funding from the Australian Government.”

Quotes attributable to Senator for NSW, Tony Sheldon:

“The Australian Government has delivered another great project for NSW in partnership with the Willoughby City Council – one that the local community has long called for.

“This project, which supported 11 jobs during construction, is about leveraging the existing strengths of this much-loved centre in the heart of Sydney’s lower north shore and unlocking its potential.

“I encourage Naremburn locals and visitors to come and immerse themselves in this truly transformed space, and most importantly, to spend local.”

Quotes attributable to Mayor of Willoughby City, Cr Tanya Taylor:

“We are thrilled to invite everyone to join us in celebrating the completion of the Naremburn Streetscape Project.

“This project represents a collaborative effort and a significant investment in our community's future.

“We look forward to sharing this milestone with residents, businesses, and visitors alike."
