Onsite GP service transforms senior health and wellbeing

Odyssey Lifestyle Care Communities < 1 mins read

A pioneer in the aged care industry is collaborating with a local General Practitioner (GP) service and Pharmacist, providing a game-changing solution for residents who struggle with travel or no longer drive.

On-Site Health Service has designated a dedicated space within Odyssey Lifestyle Care Communities to ensure residents receive exceptional medical care without the need to leave the comfort of their community.

Odyssey CEO and founder Phil Usher says as care is a cornerstone of Odyssey’s ethos, an onsite GP service was not just forward-thinking but essential.

“By providing access to primary healthcare within our community, we ensure that our residents receive timely and personalised care, without the stress of external appointments,” says Mr Usher.

“Residents can book to see one of the two rostered doctors in clinic, which is located in our Ipanema building.”

Mr Usher says in addition to the GP service, Odyssey also offers onsite physiotherapy, occupational therapy and pharmacy services.

“Our residents have access to a roster of allied health professionals, including six physiotherapists and one occupational therapist, for consultations,” says Mr Usher.

“We also have a resident pharmacist as an extra level of care and expert assistance.

“These services are conveniently available to residents as they seek tailored, professional medication, treatment and guidance—all from the comfort of their own home.”

The Odyssey model is built around a resort style environment where couples stay together, pets are welcome, grandkids can have sleepovers and most importantly, the dignity, independence and wellbeing of residents are highly respected.

New study to improve contraceptive care for mothers of newborn babies

Contraception for mothers of newborn babies can often be overlooked amidst the focus on the health of the newborn baby and the significant adjustments required following the birth of the child. A Monash University-led study has found that early access to contraception information and services postnatally can support family planning and encourage adequate spacing between pregnancies to ensure better health outcomes for both mothers and babies. This can help avoid unintended pregnancies and improve the health and wellbeing of women and their families. The new study gathered general practitioners’ (GPs) views on providing contraceptive care during the ‘6-week check’ –…

RACGP questions readiness of expedited pathway for overseas GPs

Just weeks ahead of the planned launch of an expedited pathway seeking to approve overseas trained GPs to work in Australia, the Royal Australian College of GPs (RACGP) has said it has concerns about the program’s readiness. The Medical Board of Australia announced the expedited pathway for overseas-trained GPs, anaesthetists, obstetricians and gynaecologists, and psychiatrists in late April. With the program planned to commence in October, the RACGP has concerns about the program’s readiness and the impact it may have on existing expedited pathways. RACGP President Dr Nicole Higgins said the Board must listen to the medical colleges’ concerns about…
