Outback Highway Development Council Inc 2 mins read

Boulia, Queensland, – The Outback Highway Development Council Inc. (OHDC) is excited to announce that its Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on September 2nd in Boulia, Queensland. This year’s AGM is set to be a landmark event, featuring a dual presentation that reflects the organisation's commitment to the development and promotion of the Outback Way, Australia’s longest shortcut.

During the AGM, attendees will receive the Outback Way Action Plan 2024 developed from the recent Outback Way Forum held in Canberra. This report encapsulates the discussions, outcomes, and strategic directions proposed by key stakeholders and experts from across the Outback Way. The forum served as a crucial platform for aligning efforts towards the sustainable development of the Outback Way, ensuring its ongoing development as an artery for connecting communities fostering economic growth in Australia’s remote regions and the whole nation.

In addition to the Forum Report, the AGM will mark the much-anticipated release of From Bulldust to Bitumen this compelling book chronicles the journey of the Outback Way over the past quarter-century, highlighting the challenges, triumphs, and the relentless dedication of those who have contributed to the lobbying and advocacy piece to recognise the Outback Way and transform the route from a rugged track into a vital transportation corridor.

Cr Pat Hill, Chair of the Outback Highway Development Council Inc., expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming meeting. "The 27th AGM is not just a reflection on our past achievements but also a moment to chart our future. The release of “From Bulldust to Bitumen” is a testament to the enduring spirit of the communities and individuals who have supported the Outback Way. We are eager to share this legacy with our members and the public."

The Outback Way stretches over 2,700 kilometres, linking Winton in Queensland to Laverton in Western Australia, passing through some of Australia’s most remote and iconic landscapes. The continued development and maintenance of this route are vital for the nation and communities it serves, providing essential connectivity, fostering tourism, and supporting regional economies.

The AGM will bring together council members, stakeholders, and community leaders to reflect on the progress made and to inform the agenda for the coming years. With the dual presentation of the Outback Way Forum Report Action Plan and the book release, this meeting is expected to be a significant milestone in the ongoing development of the Outback Way.
