Rewiring Australia’s Dr Saul Griffith in Queensland for two Electrify Everything Events in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast

Rewiring Australia 2 mins read

Rewiring Australia co-founder and Chief Scientist Dr Saul Griffith, affectionately known as “Dr Electrify” is heading to Queensland in September for two Electrify Everything events in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast.

Dr Griffith will outline his research and visionary blueprint, painting an inspiring yet practical picture of empowered local communities acting collectively, and households being placed first in energy and climate policy.

As Queensland gears up for its state election in October, there has been keen interest in how local Queenslanders can benefit from and support the transition to solar-powered electric homes and businesses.

Dr Griffith will be joined by an esteemed panel of speakers for a lively discussion on our energy future, the role of Queensland and the importance of households. Joining Dr Griffith on the Gold Coast on September 17 will be joined by Brandan Mackey, 2022 IPCC report author and Director of Griffith Climate Action Beacon at Griffith University and Michelle Archard of Currumbin Eco Village Resilience.

In Brisbane on September 18, he will be joined by Minister Sam O’Connor, Shadow Minister for Environment and the Great Barrier Reef and Science and Innovation, Kate Raymond, CEO of Master Electricians, and Mark Purcell of community group Zero Emissions Noosa.

"Queensland has the most to gain from the energy transition thanks to its abundant solar resources. I can't wait to meet the passionate Queenslanders spearheading climate solutions in their own communities; doing their part so the Sunshine State can truly live up to its name,” said Dr Griffith.

"I'm always inspired and energised by grassroots organisations that are pushing for change on the ground. It's in our local communities where an electrified future will be felt - sustainable local jobs, healthier streets, energy resilience and lower energy bills for all."

Electrify Everything: Gold Coast will take place on Tuesday September 17 at Broadbeach Cultural Centre, Albert Waterways Auditorium at 6:30PM AEST

Electrify Everything: Brisbane will take place on Wednesday September 18 at Queensland Multicultural Centre at 6:30PM AEST

About Dr Saul Griffith
Dr Saul Griffith was a key advisor and designer of the game-changing US legislation, a $369 billion investment in electrifying US homes and kickstarting a clean energy and manufacturing boom. He returned to Australia in 2021 to steer his home country on an ambitious yet achievable path to address the climate and cost of living crisis while helping every household reduce their energy bills. Dr Griffith established non-profit research and advocacy organisation, Rewiring Australia, to carry out this crucial work, which supports and connects with local community groups.

Labor’s big majority gives Albanese government opportunity to take strong action on nature and climate

The Australian Conservation Foundation has congratulated Murray Watt on being appointed the new Minister for Environment and Water and emphasised the importance of tackling the long-overdue reform of the broken national nature laws. “ACF congratulates Murray Watt on his appointment to this critical portfolio,” saidACF’s CEO Kelly O’Shanassy. “There are many reasons why we should protect nature, not the least of which is because nature protects us – by providing clean air and water, beautiful landscapes, good food and the materials we need to live. “But nature in Australia is under intense pressure and the national nature law is not…

EPA FINES MORELLO EARTHMOVING FOR BURYING WASTE

A Wentworth-based earthmoving company has been fined $30,000 following an investigation by the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) that uncovered serious breaches, including illegally burying over 400 tonnes of construction and demolition waste. Morello Earthmoving is approved to store and process up to 2.5 tonnes of waste but does not hold the required licence for the large-scale operation it was undertaking. The fine follows a Clean-Up Notice issued by the EPA in August 2024, which directed the company to remove the waste. This work is ongoing. EPA Executive Director Operations Jason Gordon said the scale of the clean-up and the…

Energy-intensive industrial processes can be decarbonised

1414 Degrees (ASX:14D) is marching forward with the commercialisation of its silicon-based thermal energy storage system known as SiBox, which could play a pivotal role in replacing fossil fuel-based heat in industrial processes whilst protecting businesses against intermittent electricity supply and power outages stemming from renewable sources of energy generation. I thought you would be interested in this CEO interview considering the mass blackouts across Spain, Portugal, and parts of Western Europe in late April, to discover how long-duration thermal storage such as SiBox can provide a reliable solution for safeguarding Australian industries against shutdowns.
