Lloyds Auctioneers and Valuers 2 mins read

The complete archive collection of the iconic Glenn A Baker has come forward for auction featuring over 80,000 singles and pieces from vinyl, to CDs, magazines and more all going under the hammer with Lloyds Auctions.

Glenn A Baker is an iconic Australian journalist, commentator, author and broadcaster, well known in Australia for his vast encyclopaedic knowledge of rock music, he has written books, magazine articles, interviewed celebrities, managed bands, and promoted tours of international rockstars.

“I started collecting records when I was about 11 years of age, and I remember I was living out in the country at the time, and I used to get old jukebox singles… I knew that I was destined to be a collector for life at that time,” said Mr. Glenn A Baker.

LP records are at the core of the collection, with over 50,000 of them primarily representing rock’n’roll and popular music of the second half of the 20th century.

“We feel honoured to bring the Glenn A Baker iconic collection to auction. It is a collection which represents dedication and passion in the way it was curated. For this reason, it is important to pass the iconic collection onto the next custodians to enjoy but also preserve,” said Mr. Lee Hames, Chief Operations Officer for Lloyds Auctions.

The special archives have been specially curated within the private collection of Glenn A Baker, an enthusiast who began collecting records in the early 1960s.

“The Glenn A Baker Archives needs someone who will both care for it and ensure that it would continue on intact to another owner or another generation and continue to be a source of enrichment to everybody who comes near it,” said Mr. Glenn A Baker.

“It deserves to be kept largely intact, it’s really important to me at this stage in my life for it to be maintained at it be continued on in the hands of somebody who actually cares about it. It’s a collection that deserves to be transformed into a museum,” continued Mr. Baker.

The archives go up for auction on Friday 30th August from 7pm.
