The Salvation Army excited for Grand Opening of a new Family Store in picturesque Airlie Beach

The Salvation Army 2 mins read

The Salvation Army is expanding its network of Family Stores in North Queensland with the grand opening of its latest store at Airlie Beach this weekend.  The new store will be located at 108 Shute Harbour Road at Cannonvale and will be fully stocked with a range of clothing, furniture, household items and books from opening day this Saturday.

Auxiliary-Lieutenant David Dobbie hopes the Airlie Beach community will get behind the new store.  “We’re really excited to be opening our new store in Airlie Beach.  The Salvation Army are passionate about transforming lives and creating a sense of community.” said Aux-Lt Dobbie.  “Donations of unwanted items will be accepted on-site during opening hours and locals are encouraged to support the work of The Salvation Army through the donation of quality items, the proceed of which go to supporting the work for the Salvos throughout the region.”

A pick-up and delivery service will also be offered for donations and purchases of bulky items such as furniture and mattresses.

The Salvos are also putting a call out for volunteers who may want to show their support through the family store.  “We also give people an opportunity to give back to the community by becoming one of our valued volunteers.  This is a very rewarding way to be an active part of the community, make new friends and support the work of The Salvation Army in the Whitsundays region”, said Aux-Lt Dobbie.

Local media and interested community members are encouraged to attend the official opening on Saturday 17 August at 9am, after which the store will be open for business.  “Whether you’re visiting the Whitsundays or a resident of this amazing part of the world, we’d love for you to come and say hi”, said Aux-Lt Dobbie.

ACOSS demands immediate suspension of Targeted Compliance Framework and full, open legal investigation

ACOSS has called for the immediate suspension of the Targeted Compliance Framework following the latest revelations that income support payments may have been illegally cancelled, affecting at least 1,000 people between April 2022 and July 2024. In a letter to Employment Minister Murray Watt on Friday 29th November, ACOSS CEO Cassandra Goldie urged the Government to refer itself to the Federal Ombudsman and initiate a full legal and human rights investigation into the Compliance system. “If confirmed unlawful, this would mark the third instance in recent years of illegal action against people relying on income support for essentials,” said Dr…

ACOSS welcomes RBA reforms and calls for RBA to prioritise jobs as well as curbing inflation

ACOSS welcomes the changes to the way the Reserve Bank sets interest rates as part of the RBA Reform Bill that passed into law last week. The new rules entrench a ‘dual mandate’ for the RBA – to contribute to full employment and price stability – without giving priority to one over the other. The reforms herald the first major changes in the RBA’s 70 years history. “These ground-breaking changes to the Reserve Bank mean the Bank must work to keep both inflation and unemployment under control. Both goals are of equal importance,” said ACOSS CEO Dr Cassandra Goldie AO.…

Uniting NSW.ACT encourages NSW Government to avoid Groundhog Day on the Out of Home Care System Review

Uniting NSW.ACT welcomes the release of the report on the major review of the NSW Out Of Home Care (OOHC) system and urges the NSW Government to recognise that out of home care cannot be adequately reformed in isolation from the broader child protection system. Uniting NSW.ACT Communities Director Dr Andrew Montague said Uniting welcomes thefocus on the whole child protection system, especiallythe need to shift funding earlier. “The government needs to widen its lens and focus more broadly, beyond cost control and service commissioning,” Dr Montague said. “The system should avoid simply responding to risk which is already apparent; it…
