The Victorian Chamber brings training to you!

The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry < 1 mins read

The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry continues to support regional businesses to access learning and development opportunities by again taking our training services on the road.

Based on the success of last year’s program and current demand for ongoing training and support, the Victorian Chamber is offering courses in Bendigo, Ballarat and beyond.

Regional Victoria is home to one in four Victorians, 25 per cent of Victoria’s small businesses and more than 700,000 jobs.

However, skills development and labour shortages are putting pressure on regional businesses and limiting the ability of the regions to grow and prosper.

Education and training are important paths to help address some of these issues and the Victorian Chamber is helping businesses to invest in upskilling and retaining staff.

To be attributed to Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chief Executive Paul Guerra:

“Continual learning is key to improving performance and driving new ideas. Making in-person training more accessible to business leaders at all levels in Regional Victoria will facilitate business growth and relationship building. It’s driven by the Victorian Chamber’s relentless drive to make Victoria the best place to operate a business.”

University of Canberra’s plan to scrap 200 jobs latest governance failure

The National Tertiary Education Union has called for a federal parliamentary inquiry into university governance after the University of Canberra announced 200 job losses. UC's Interim Vice Chancellor Stephen Parker announced a plan to scrap 200 roles on Monday. This announcement follows the very public governance crisis at UC, which has attracted significant public interest in recent times. Former Vice Chancellor, Paddy Nixon resigned suddenly after revelations he received a whopping $1.8 million remuneration in 2023. There have also been course cuts, unit cuts, a $10 million budget blowout (following an $9.5 million increase in spending on consultants), the replacement…

Momentum Schools lead way for explicit instruction in Victorian classrooms

A select group of “model schools” will set the standard for new teaching practices in Victoria as educators work to meet a government deadline to make the switch to explicit instruction methods. Victorian government schools have been given three years to move to structured phonics and explicit instruction from prep to grade 2 after State Education Minister Ben Carroll announced a system-wide shift in June. La Trobe University’s new Momentum Schools research project will investigate how best to support this change, linking schools that have successfully adopted explicit instruction with others just starting the transition. More than 80 schools have…

Veteran community to benefit from free mental health and suicide prevention training

Veterans and their families have access to free mental health literacy and suicide prevention training, thanks to an Australian Government-funded initiative launched today by leading health promotion charity Mental Health First Aid Australia. Announcing the official launch during Veterans’ Health Week, Acting CEO Ebony Whitehouse says the Mental Health Protect program reflects this year’s theme of ‘Keep connected’ in recognising the role these connections have in keeping the community safe. ‘We know that the broader veteran community are often the first point of contact for veterans, and they will be first to recognise signs of mental health problems or psychological…
