BRISBANE, QLD

Australian Koala Foundation (AKF) ambassador and country music star Andy Penkow will next Thursday debut his new song “Heavy on Me” in a special intimate concert at the Australian Koala Foundation’s headquarters in Brisbane.

In honour of Save the Koala Day, Penkow will play an exclusive 40-minute set for a small crowd of fans, handpicked and invited by his team for the world-first debut. As part of this concert, fans will also be the first to view the accompanying “Heavy on Me” music video, made in collaboration with the AKF’s in-house cinematographer Jon-Michel Mooney.

“We are just delighted to be hosting Andy, his band and his fans for this event,” stated Australian Koala Foundation Chair, Deborah Tabart OAM. “We feel incredibly privileged that Andy took this amazing song of his and repurposed it for Save the Koala Day. The themes that have been included in this new version are so relevant for the plight that Koalas are currently facing, and how our humanity is the only thing that can help them. It ties in perfectly with this year’s Save the Koala Month theme which is “Join the Chorus”. What better way to end then with a concert!”

Date: Thursday 26th September 2024
Time: 1 – 1:40pm
Location: The AKF Loft: Lvl 1, 40 Charlotte St Brisbane City 4000

All interested media are invited to attend this exclusive event.

Will there be bluebottles at the beach? Scientists working on prediction tool

Technology has made it a lot easier to plan for that perfect day at the beach. We've got weather apps, surf apps and even beach cams that all give us an idea of what to expect even before we leave the house. But what the apps and cams can’t really tell us is whether or not we can expect to share the beach with bluebottles – those bothersome sea animals that deliver a sting that will make your day at the beach unforgettable for the wrong reasons. But today scientists from UNSW Sydney are working on technology that can go…
