Boosting community safety: six new defibrillators and CPR training sessions

North Sydney Council < 1 min read

North Sydney Council is taking significant steps to enhance public safety by installing six new public access defibrillators across key parks in the area.

These vital life-saving devices will be available in Anderson Park, Cammeray Park, Forsyth Park, Primrose Park, St Leonard’s Park, and Waverton Park in the coming weeks.

The new installations complement the existing defibrillators at Council sites, ensuring that help is always close by in an emergency.

In conjunction with this initiative, North Sydney Council is offering CPR training sessions for the community, recognising the importance of equipping residents with essential life-saving skills. The CPR courses will be delivered by the Australian Lifesaving Academy NSW and are open to the public for a fee of $75.

The CPR courses will be held at the Council Chambers, with two sessions available:

  • Monday 23 September, 10am to 12.30pm
  • Friday 27 September, 10am to 12.30pm

Each session has a limited capacity of 25 participants, so early registration is encouraged.

These training sessions are part of a broader campaign by North Sydney Council to raise awareness of CPR skills and the importance of defibrillators in public spaces.

The defibrillators installed in North Sydney’s parks are weather-resistant, damage-resistant, and theft-resistant, ensuring they remain accessible and operational when needed most. This investment in public health and safety underscores the Council's proactive approach to community wellbeing.

Defibrillator Locations:

  • Anderson Park, Clark Street, Neutral Bay
  • Cammeray Park, Park Avenue, Neutral Bay
  • Forsyth Park, Montpelier Street, Neutral Bay
  • Primrose Park, Denos Lane, Cremorne

Kiama Council’s Austerity Budget Threatens Jobs and Vital Community Services

Kiama Council’s proposed 2026-27 budget will deliver real cuts to jobs and essential community services, warns the United Services Union which represents council workers. Council’s draft budget includes the potential closure or sale of youth services, the Community Recycling Centre, the Visitor Information Centre, and putting waste services out to tender. These measures come despite Kiama having significantly lower rates than neighbouring councils such as Shellharbour, even though property values in Kiama are substantially higher. Stuart Geddes, Acting Southern Manager and Industrial Officer/Solicitor for the United Services Union (USU), says the community is right to be outraged by the proposals…
