North Sydney Council < 1 mins read

Stanton Library’s Heritage Centre and May Gibbs’ Nutcote are excited to unveil a special exhibition in celebration of the 100th anniversary of May Gibbs' cherished Bib and Bub cartoon strip.

As part of History Week, Stanton Library’s Heritage Centre will feature a free exhibition showcasing original cartoon strips and rare books. This display provides an in-depth look into Gibbs' creative world and her significant impact on Australian comic art.

At the same time, May Gibbs’ Nutcote will present a separate exhibition, included with museum entry, highlighting Gibbs’ journey from children's author to iconic cartoonist.

Visitors will see original artwork and learn about the cultural significance of Bib and Bub, reflecting Gibbs' influence on Australian childhood through her whimsical characters set against the Australian bush.

Both exhibitions will be open to the public from 12 September 2024.

North Sydney Council’s SRV Application Not Approved by IPART

The Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) has not approved North Sydney Council’s application for a Special Rate Variation (SRV). Council had sought an increase of 45% in 2025/26 and 29% in 2026/27 to repair Council’s financial position, maintain existing services, fund the renewal of ageing infrastructure, and deliver strategic priorities for the changing and growing population. Liquidity pressures because of the North Sydney Olympic Pool project have reduced renewal of infrastructure and depleted internal reserves. Restoring Council’s liquidity must be Council’s first priority. While disappointed, Council respects IPART’s decision…

Riverina Water workers have today returned to work following a second round of strike action, after management and union representatives agreed to further discussions. Riverina Water and the United Services Union (USU) have jointly committed to seeking the intervention of the New South Wales Industrial Relations Commission (IRC) to oversee further discussions on this matter and on productivity measures that could offset the costs of harmonising working hours. In layman’s terms, both parties have agreed to call in the ‘industrial umpire’ to find a way forward in this matter. The core issue at the heart of the dispute is the…
