Energy Locals wins Finder’s Green Energy Retailer Award for sustainability initiatives

Energy Locals 2 mins read

Energy Locals is named the 2024 Green Energy Retailer of the Year by Finder, which recognises its continued leadership in the environmental sustainability space. This marks their second consecutive win and fourth overall, with awards in 2020, 2021, and 2023.

“It’s an honour to receive this award for the second year in a row,” says Energy Locals Founder Adrian Merrick. “Winning this award not only reflects our dedication to a more sustainable future, but also the hard work of our team that has helped make all of this possible.”

“Over the past year, we’ve taken significant steps toward environmental stewardship, driving impactful change through a number of initiatives, such as offsetting all of our carbon emissions and partnering with renewable energy organisations, among many others.”

“Our efforts don’t stop here,” he continues. “We remain committed to transforming the energy sector and delivering on our mission to make locally generated, carbon-free energy more affordable and accessible for everyone.”

Aside from the aforementioned initiatives, Energy Locals has also made significant strides in advancing sustainability in the 12 months to March 2024 by:

  • Fitting 29 apartment buildings with sustainable living solutions, specifically 1281kW of solar PV, 69 Tesla Powerwalls, and 44 EV chargers. In January alone, we generated enough solar energy to vacuum an area the size of Sydney!
  • Launching four different solar and battery solutions to help remove the barriers to investing in renewable solutions, increasing their commercial and industrial solar portfolio from 0 to over 300MW of NEM opportunities.
  • Offering 100%, 50%, and 10% GreenPower at cost, ensuring that customers have access to sustainable energy solutions without the unnecessary price premiums.
  • Supporting renewable energy projects, such as the SA Virtual Power Plant, resulting in over 5,000 residents now benefiting from the lowest, or sometimes one of the lowest, energy rates in South Australia.
  • Partnering with Haystacks Solar Garden to provide energy services for a 1.5MW community solar garden in the Riverina, and Golden Plains Wind Farm to offer financial and environmental benefits through the Community Energy Program.
  • We offset over 96,000 tonnes of our customers usage — that’s equivalent to taking 21,000 cars off the road for a year.

Major change to gas connection fees signals shift toward electrification

Major change to gas connection fees signals shift toward electrification Rewiring Australia has welcomed a major rule change which will soon require households across eastern Australia to pay upfront fees of more than $2,000 to connect to gas. The Australian Energy Market Commission made the decision which will apply to south-east Queensland, NSW, ACT and South Australia from next October. It brings these states into line with Victoria which already requires developers to pay upfront gas connection costs. The decision is designed to prevent rising energy costs, with the cost of connections affecting all users under the previous rules because…

Energy legislation sends Queensland backwards and puts clean energy and Reef jobs at risk

The Crisafulli Government has sent Queensland backwards and put clean energy and Reef jobs at risk with the legislation to deliver a new Energy Roadmap, said WWF-Australia. The Queensland Government tonight passed legislation that will scrap Queensland's renewable energy targets and extend the life of ageing and unreliable coal fired power stations. “This is a dangerous backward step for Queensland,” said Ariane Wilkinson, Senior Manager of Climate and Energy Policy, WWF-Australia. “Delaying coal closures indefinitely will have serious consequences for Queenslanders. Regional communities need clear timelines to plan ahead and secure the clean energy jobs of the future. “This legislation…
