Torrens University Australia Students bringing affordable healthcare to the community 2 mins read

Spring into better health with the Practice Wellbeing Centre, a student-led clinic offering high-quality, affordable holistic care. Run by Torrens University students under expert supervision, the Centre provides services like clinical nutrition, western herbal medicine and naturopathy at just $10–$20 per appointment.

Natalie Cook, Director of Innovation, Industry & Employability, Health & Education said the Centre is a win-win for students and the community.

“Our student clinics offer the community affordable, high-quality healthcare while also preparing our students for successful careers in the health sector, increasing their employability.

“Our clinic doors are open to anyone who wants to gain support with their wellbeing.  Our approach is genuinely person-centred, backed by the academic rigour of a university degree,” said Natalie.

Affordable Healthcare Amidst Rising Cost of Living

Right now, with the rising costs of healthcare costs, The Practice Wellbeing Centre offers affordability and access to holistic, preventative healthcare to the community.

Students at the Forefront

At the heart of our Centre are the students from Torrens University Australia. Our clinic is not only a place of healing but also a critical training ground where students gain hands-on experience in Clinical Nutrition, Western Herbal Medicine, Naturopathy, Counselling (Sydney only), Chinese Medicine, Myotherapy (Melbourne only), and Beauty & Aesthetics (Brisbane only).

Each student undergoes supervised clinical training, a unique feature of our program that sets us apart as the only university in Australia to offer such comprehensive practical experience.

The Practice Wellbeing Centre is crucial for students' professional growth, providing hands-on experience with real clients. This real-world immersion enhances their practical skills and patient care understanding, easing their transition from academic studies to professional roles.

Yianna Tsakirios, a Clinical Nutrition graduand, shares, “our training goes beyond textbook learning. We acquire practical skills and apply them in a real-world setting, which significantly enhances our employability and readiness for the health industry.”

Senators To Hear How Government Reforms Will Kill International Education Jobs

Advice that the Senate has decided to accept further submissions on the Education Services for Overseas Students Amendment (Quality and Integrity) Bill 2024 has been welcomed by the Independent Tertiary Education Council Australia (ITECA), the peak body representing independent skills training, higher education, and international education sectors. This meant that senators couldn’t consider the impacts on high-quality RTOs, including job losses. “This bill is an…
