It’s October and time to talk about mental health.

Mental Health Coalition of SA 2 mins read

This year’s Mental Health Month theme urges South Australians to break down barriers and talk openly about mental health.

Throughout the entire month of October, an array of events and activities will be held, designed to raise awareness and provide support for those navigating the complexities of mental health. Collaborating with partners such as Adelaide City Libraries, NEAMI Arts, Skylight, and Living Arts, the MHCSA will showcase the artwork of South Australian creatives living with mental illness.

Key highlights during Mental Health Month include the "Laughter is the Best Meds" on World Mental Health Day, October 10th, featuring the comedic brilliance of Harley Breen and a stellar lineup of local talents. Additionally, the MHCSA Lived Experience Awards Workforce Dinner on October 24th will shine a spotlight on the invaluable contributions of individuals with lived experience of mental health challenges to the mental health sector.

On the Mental Health Month website people can also find ways you can be a part of Mental Health Month with ideas for community events and workplace activities. There is also a social media guide, posters and a calendar of events of what’s happening throughout the month.

Importantly people can also find support services for mental health challenges.

The MHCSA will be launching the Month with an online video featuring a fireside chat with journalist and writer Katie Spain and Mental Health Commissioner Taimi Allan.

Mental Health Month is proudly presented by the Mental Health Coalition of SA and SA Health and bolstered by the generous support of Adelaide PHN, Mind, Centacare, Life Without Barriers, Uniting SA, Skylight, and NEAMI National.  We also acknowledge our venue sponsors City of Adelaide and The Arkaba Hotel.

And the improved mental health effects were still evident at least a month after completing the course. The study, which was published today in the journal Psychological Medicine, comes at a time when young adults face persistent uncertainty – from the pandemic to global instability to…
