MEDIA ALERT | Protest at Dutton’s nuclear address in Sydney

Solutions for Climate Australia < 1 mins read

WHERE: Martin Place at Pitt Street (outside the Fullerton Hotel)

WHEN: 11.15am Monday 23 September

People from across the climate, environment and union sector will assemble outside opposition leader Peter Dutton’s address to the Committee for Economic Development Australia to say: WE CAN’T AFFORD NUCLEAR!

Expect banners, signs and chants along with music and flying cash, illustrating the high cost of nuclear reactors to the environment, climate and hip pocket.

“Peter Dutton needs to deliver a policy to cut energy bills and climate pollution this decade, not a fantasy of nuclear reactors decades in the future,” said Elly Baxter, senior campaigner at Solutions for Climate Australia.

ACOSS welcomes domestic gas reserve and urges immediate action to help people with the least

ACOSS welcomes the federal government's proposal for a domestic gas reservation to deliver cheaper local gas supply while we transition to renewable energy. “There is no gas shortage in Australia. The problem is the system which allows rich multinational gas companies to make huge profits by exporting 80% of our gas,” ACOSS Program Director of Climate and Energy Kellie Caught said. “Gas exports are driving domestic gas and electricity prices through the roof, with prices tripling and driving up inflation and household bills. “Multinational corporations are posting huge profits while people on low incomes are having to skip meals and…

AWU embraces historic gas reservation announcement after decade-long campaign

The Australian Workers' Union has strongly endorsed the Albanese Government's announcement of a domestic gas reservation scheme as a historic victory for Australian manufacturing and workers. AWU National Secretary Paul Farrow said the decision to require exporters to reserve between 15 and 25 per cent of gas production for domestic use marked a turning point for Australian industry. "The best time to introduce an Australian gas reservation scheme was a decade ago. The next best time is now," Mr Farrow said. "The AWU has been campaigning for this outcome since 2015. Our slogan from day one was simple: it's Australia's…
