Rewiring Australia’s Dr Saul Griffith in Queensland for Electrify Everything events in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast

Rewiring Australia 2 mins read

Rewiring Australia co-founder and Chief Scientist Dr Saul Griffith, affectionately known as “Dr Electrify” is heading to Queensland in September for two Electrify Everything events in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast.

Dr Griffith will outline his research and visionary blueprint, painting an inspiring yet practical picture of empowered local communities acting collectively, and households being placed first in energy and climate policy.

As Queensland gears up for its state election in October, there has been keen interest in how local Queenslanders can benefit from and support the transition to solar-powered electric homes and businesses.

Dr Griffith will be joined by an esteemed panel of speakers for a lively discussion on our energy future, the role of Queensland and the importance of households. Joining Dr Griffith on the Gold Coast on September 17 will be Minister Sam O’Connor, Shadow Minister for Environment and the Great Barrier Reef and Science and Innovation, Brendan Mackey, 2022 IPCC report author and Director of Griffith Climate Action Beacon at Griffith University and Michelle Archard of Currumbin Eco Village Resilience.

In Brisbane on September 18, he will be joined by Kate Raymond, CEO of Master Electricians and Anne Kennedy, Chair of  Zero Emissions Noosa.

"Queensland has the most to gain from the energy transition thanks to its abundant solar resources. I can't wait to meet the passionate Queenslanders spearheading climate solutions in their own communities; doing their part so the Sunshine State can truly live up to its name,” said Dr Griffith.

"I'm always inspired and energised by grassroots organisations that are pushing for change on the ground. It's in our local communities where an electrified future will be felt - sustainable local jobs, healthier streets, energy resilience and lower energy bills for all."

Sara Hicks, Climate Advocate for Gecko Environment Council said, "As a volunteer I'm keen to see people across the Gold Coast benefit from cheaper, cleaner energy.

"We're in a critical time to reduce emissions and ride the change that's sweeping Australia - now it's the Gold Coast's turn to look at what we can do.

"Saul's enthusiastic vision to 'electrify everything' gets us asking: what are the opportunities and what do we need to for our entire community to get energy that's cheaper, more localised and reliable?"

Electrify Everything: Gold Coast will take place on Tuesday September 17 at Broadbeach Cultural Centre, Albert Waterways Auditorium at 6:30PM AEST

Electrify Everything: Brisbane will take place on Wednesday September 18 at Queensland Multicultural Centre at 6:30PM AEST

About Dr Saul Griffith

Dr Saul Griffith was a key advisor and designer of the game-changing US legislation, a $369 billion investment in electrifying US homes and kickstarting a clean energy and manufacturing boom. He returned to Australia in 2021 to steer his home country on an ambitious yet achievable path to address the climate and cost of living crisis while helping every household reduce their energy bills. Dr Griffith established non-profit research and advocacy organisation, Rewiring Australia, to carry out this crucial work, which supports and connects with local community groups.

Next phase of Savanna Fire Management method strengthens integrity and supports scale of Indigenous-led carbon projects

Savanna fire management in Australia has entered its next phase, with the approval of updated settings under the ACCU scheme strengthening the integrity and scalability of one of the country’s most established carbon project types. The update, following review by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water(DCCEEW), reinforces the role of SFM as a proven, landscape-scale approach to emissions reduction and land management across northern Australia. The revision introduces more rigorous baselining, updated modelling and carbon accounting aligned with the latest scientific understanding of fire in savanna landscapes, and strengthened risk management settings, including buffers and updated…
