Preparations are already under way as Sydney gears up for more than one million people to flock to the harbour foreshore for its 2024 New Year’s Eve celebrations.
The City of Sydney has today unveiled the official New Year’s Eve website, with comprehensive information and resources to help locals, interstate and international visitors plan their night and find out about the numerous ways to celebrate.
Detailing vantage points spanning the length of Sydney Harbour and transport options, site opening and closing times, alcohol restrictions and accessibility services, sydneynewyearseve.com is the primary resource for New Year’s Eve planning.
The revamped website includes improved accessibility features and streamlined pages to make navigation easier than before, whether it’s looking for a front row seat along the foreshore, a dinner cruise around the harbour, a family-friendly spot to watch the fireworks or a private function to party with friends.
“Celebrating one of the biggest New Year’s Eve spectacles in the world takes planning, so it’s important to us to ensure we enhance that visitor experience from the outset,” City of Sydney CEO Monica Barone said.
“Pivotal to the visitor experience is making it as easy as possible to find out all the information they need to plan ahead for the big night.
“I encourage everyone looking to celebrate New Year’s Eve to make arrangements in advance and explore our site for details about all the fantastic experiences Sydney has to offer.”
All City of Sydney sites and most vantage points around the harbour will be free and open to the public. This will allow more views of the fireworks that will be fired from more than a dozen locations along the harbour, as well as on the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the eastern and western sides of the landmark and the Sydney Opera House.
The vantage point map on the website has been updated with advanced filters to help visitors find the perfect spot to ring in the new year. As each site will be closed once it reaches capacity, visitors are encouraged to stay informed with the website’s live blog, as well as up to date transport and event information.
In the lead up to New Year’s Eve, the official website will be updated with more vantage points, location details, road closures and transport information.
A small number of sites around the harbour will be ticketed, some of them free, to manage crowd numbers and reserve accessible viewing areas, including the Cahill Expressway, Clark, Goat and Shark islands, Strickland Estate and Bradley’s Head.
There will be two charity fundraiser events – the Taronga Zoo Conservation Society of Australia and the Royal Botanic Garden’s Foundation & Friends New Year’s Eve Picnic.
