TIANJIN, China, Sept. 6, 2024 /Xinhua-AsiaNet/--

Tianjin Binhai High-tech Industrial Development Area (thereafter referred to as "Tianjin High-tech Area") was established in 1988 with the approval of the Tianjin Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Tianjin Municipal People's Government. It was approved by the State Council as one of the first national high-tech industrial development areas in 1991, and was nodded to set up a national independent innovation demonstration zone in 2014.

Currently, a high-end industrial system called "113X" has been formed, with the new generation information technology industry as the leading sector, and supported by the new economy services, biopharmaceuticals, new energy, and high-end equipment manufacturing sectors.

Tianjin High-tech Area (https://www.tht.gov.cn) has maintained its leading position in Tianjin in terms of key technological innovation indicators. Leveraging the advantages of being a national independent innovation demonstration zone, a free trade zone and the synergy between the two, the area has become a region with abundant innovation resources, the highest number of independent intellectual property rights, and the greatest potential for economic growth.

Efforts are currently underway to turn the area into an upgraded version of national independent innovation demonstration zone and establish a first-class science and technology innovation city in northern China.

Tianjin High-tech Area has gathered a group of strategic emerging industries represented by Sugon, Phytium, Kylinsoft, and 360. It has built a product chain covering chip operating systems, databases and servers. The focus is on developing three core chains: basic hardware, system software, and new generation information technology and services, as well as information security and all-field applications.

The area's new economy services sector includes companies such as Cloudaccount, Douyin Group, and GoGoX, as well as institutions like the intellectual property protection center, Tianjin science and technology financial center, Tianjin Huawei Kunpeng ecosystem innovation center, and Tianjin innovation and entrepreneurship service platform.

The new energy industry is led by TCL Zhonghuan Renewable Energy Technology Co., Ltd. and CETC, with LiShen, B&M Science and Technology, and Saidemei being representative companies in the field of power batteries. In the wind power sector, Mingyang, Siemens Gamesa, and National Wind Energy are representative companies. In the biopharmaceutical industry, Tianjin Institute of Pharmaceutical Research, Institute of Hematology of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Peking Union Medical College Stem Cell Gene Engineering Co., Ltd. Juventas Cell Therapy, Jointown Pharmaceutical Group, and China Medico Corporation are representative institutions. The high-end equipment industry is led by the China Academy of Space Technology and the China Academy of Aerospace Aerodynamics.

Meanwhile, Tianjin High-tech Area has also gathered the sub-industry chains of marine equipment led by China National Offshore Oil Corporation, rail transit sub-industry chain led by Siemens Mobility and Keyvia, and new energy vehicles and intelligent manufacturing sub-industry chain led by Schneider Electric and Tianjin Jinrong Tianyu Precision Machinery. Other leading companies in various industries include Tianjin TQM FEIYUE Aviation Equipment Technology Co, Ltd., CTW (Tianjin) Offshore Engineering Co., Ltd., Tianjin Beihai Communication Technology Co., Ltd., Tianjin Bool Technology Co., Ltd., and Tianjin Ruixin Technology Co., Ltd.

Tianjin High-tech Area has a forward-looking layout for future industries, including quantum communication, blockchain, third-generation semiconductors, digital twins, and intelligent drug development, among others.

Kids should play outside more to reduce the risk of short-sightedness and potential adult blindness

We are in the grips of a ‘myopia epidemic’: more than 20 per cent of Australians have myopia or short-sightedness, tipped to rise to 50 per cent by 2050. The condition typically develops during school years and, in severe cases, can lead to blindness. Children with early-onset myopia are at highest risk. Children’s eye health is the theme of World Sight Day on Thursday 10 October. For most people, with myopia, being short-sighted is an inconvenience. However, for some, myopia can lead to blindness. Ahead of World Sight Day (10 October), researchers at the Lions Eye Institute have some eye-opening…
