Celebrating a Century and More: Rev. Bill Morgan Turns 109!

Cumberland View Aged Care 2 mins read

In a remarkable milestone that few ever reach, Rev. Bill Morgan (born William Morgan) a beloved resident of Cumberland View Aged Care in Wheelers Hill, is celebrating his 109th birthday this Wednesday 23 October.  A true testament to a life well-lived, Bill has witnessed over a century of history, embodying resilience, wisdom, and grace whilst remaining very much full of ideas and conviction.

Born on 23 October 2015 in Melbourne’s inner west he has certainly seen the world transform through two world wars, the rise of modern technology, and monumental cultural shifts. His long life is filled with countless memories, from times spent with his 5 siblings, 4 brothers and a sister to his growing passion for all sports, particularly his local VFL team, the Footscray Bulldogs.

He became school captain at Scotch College where he was a notable athlete, serving as the school’s rowing captain and Ruckman for the 1st XVIII. His prowess in the sports arena continued to grow, and during his time at Melbourne University, he played rugby for Victoria.

However, Bill’s sporting endeavours were just one facet of his life. After completing his studies, Bill was ordained as a Presbyterian minister. Over the course of a long and fulfilling career, he served as a minister for almost half a century throughout South Australia, Victoria, and Tasmania.

Rev Bill’s family, friends, and the local community will come together from 2.45pm to honour this exceptional milestone with a celebration at Cumberland View Aged Care, 123-127 Whalley Drive, Wheelers Hill on Wednesday 23 October.  Former champion Western Bulldog player Chris Grant is expected to join the festivities to pay tribute to a man whose life serves as a living history lesson and a source of inspiration.

When asked about the secret to his longevity, Rev Bill attributes it to XXX, adding a dash of wisdom from his century-spanning perspective. “I’ve seen it all,” he says with a smile, “but what’s most important is 'Faith'.”

Rev Bill has made a lasting impact on his community, having just celebrated 80 years as a Minister of the Uniting Church. He remains a cherished figure, offering advice and sharing stories that inspire younger generations.

The event will feature morning tea, gift giving and some family speeches, along with Bill if he decides to :)

Join us as we celebrate the incredible life and legacy of Rev Bill, a man whose spirit and life have truly stood the test of time.

‘Fantastic milestone’ for 88 new specialist GPs in South Australia

The Royal Australian College of GPs will welcome 88 new fellows as specialist GPs in South Australia at a ceremony on Saturday 19 October, which will also celebrate the state’s annual RACGP Award winners. ACT Labor’s proposed walk-in centres expansion leaves cost and care questions unanswered: RACGP

The Royal Australian College of GPs (RACGP) has reiterated its call for the next ACT government to commit to an independent evaluation of the ACT nurse-led walk-in centres. With ACT Labor announcing an expansion of centres which are reportedly bleeding taxpayers’ money, ahead of this Saturday’s election, the RACGP also gave its assessment of parties’ primary care policies. An independent evaluation of the centres has been a core pillar of the RACGP’s ACT election platform since before a Canberra Times investigation revealed health officials had “buried” $10 million in expenses. Emails obtained under a Canberra Times freedom of information request…
