Councillor Zoë Baker has been re-elected as the Mayor of North Sydney Council, with Councillor Godfrey Santer re-elected as Deputy Mayor, at an Extraordinary Meeting on Tuesday 8 October.
Following last month's elections, the new North Sydney Council met for the first time last night, with five new and five returning Councillors taking their oaths and affirmations. The evening began with a Welcome to Country and a smoking ceremony, before the Councillors formally elected Mayor Baker to lead the Council.
Mayor Baker was previously elected as North Sydney Mayor in January 2022, following the 2021 Local Government elections and re-elected in September 2023.
Mayor Baker said, “Thank you for your good faith and trust in me. Thank you for the honour and privilege to serve as Mayor and to continue to work collaboratively with this new Council to serve our exceptional North Sydney community. This recent election marks a turning point, a turning of the page towards a new era. I am really excited that this Council has an opportunity to reset – to work constructively and collaboratively with each other, Council staff and our community, to grab the opportunities before us.”
Mayor Baker will serve in the role for two years until September 2026.
Deputy Mayor Santer will serve in the role until September 2025.
