A new art exhibition in Wollongong will showcase the experiences of people living with a mental health condition from across the Illawarra region.

Community mental health service Flourish Australia will host the exhibition, which will open on Friday October 25 at the organisation’s New Outlook centre.

Up to 15 artists will showcase almost 50 works, with the exhibition celebrating Mental Health Month which this year is themed Let’s Talk About It.

“The calibre of this year’s art is sensational. There’s some really powerful works that highlight the immense talent we’re lucky to have across the Illawarra region,” said Flourish Australia Wollongong manager Matthew Whitland.

“We think these artworks will start some really great conversations around mental health, which is exactly what we want to see across the Illawarra and the rest of the country this mental health month.

“Opening night is shaping up to be a fantastic community event, with live music and poetry also featuring alongside the art.

“I want to encourage everyone to attend opening night or pop in to check out the artwork early next week during the other four days it will be exhibited.”

The exhibition’s opening night on October 25 runs from 5pm until 7pm. The artworks will also be open to the public from October 28 to 31, between 10am and 2pm.

New Outlook is at 3 Station Street, Wollongong.
