New Return and Earn machine now open in Parkes

Return and Earn 2 mins read

Parkes residents have a new location to recycle their eligible bottles and cans, with a new Return and Earn machine now open at Parkes Services Club.

The machine is the third return point in the Parkes Shire Council area, providing locals with even more opportunities to return their eligible bottles and cans for the 10c refund.

“Parkes Share Council residents are already enthusiastic recyclers, having returned over 39.4 million eligible bottles, cans and cartons through local return points since the scheme began,” said James Dorney, CEO of TOMRA Cleanaway, the network operator for the scheme.

Users of the new machine can print a voucher for the refund amount, which can be redeemed for cash at Coles, or they can opt for an e-voucher or payment into their bank or PayPal account using the Return and Earn app.

Locals can also donate their refund to one of the many donation partners listed on the Return and Earn app.

Or they can donate their refund to the current state-wide donation appeal in support of Little Wings, providing free air and ground transport for seriously ill children from regional and remote areas across NSW, allowing for life-saving medical treatments.

More than 12 billion containers have been returned for recycling through the network of over 630 return points across NSW since the scheme began, resulting in more than $1.2 billion in container refunds back in people’s pockets.

Return and Earn is also a key fundraising channel for many charities and community groups in NSW with more than $62 million raised from donations and fees from hosting return points since the scheme launched.

“The new Parkes Return and Earn machine will make it even easier for locals to make Return and Earn a part of their regular recycling routine.

Together, we can all contribute to a more sustainable future, where the materials that our bottles, cans and cartons are made of are kept in use and out of landfill.” said Mr. Dorney.

The Return and Earn Parkes Services Club machine is located at 20 Caledonia Street in the Parkes Services Club car park. The machine is open from 7:00am to 10:00pm daily.

New Monash University climate partnership to empower a small island nation in the South Pacific

A new project by the PACT (Pacific Action for Climate Transitions) centre, a Monash Business School and Fiji National University collaboration, is set to help Nauru, the world’s smallest island nation, in its fight against climate change. Located about 3000 km north-east of Australia, Nauru is 21 square kilometres, with a population of approximately 11,000 residents. Limited by remoteness, with a lack of natural resources outside fisheries, the island’s interior has been gutted by more than a century of open-cut phosphate mining. Past mining practices have rendered more than 80 per cent of its landmass uninhabitable and devastated the landscape.…
