Play your part in keeping children safe in sport

The NSW Government will host a series of interactive child safety workshops in the Central West and Western Plains next week to help local sporting organisations keep children safe from harm and abuse in sport.

The NSW Office of Sport has partnered with the Office of the Children’s Guardian to deliver the workshops which will provide practical information on the simple steps sports clubs can take to protect children.

The workshops will be held at Dubbo, Orange and Bathurst on 22, 23 and 24 October and will be delivered by Matt Sibley, Child Safe Officer (Sport) from the Office of the Children’s Guardian.

Office of Sport Acting Chief Executive Cassie Tuckwell said:
“Sport brings communities together, especially in regional NSW, and we want to ensure that everyone who participates is safe.
“The workshops will outline common risks to children in community sport and ways to avoid placing participants in risky situations.

“The workshops will be invaluable to sporting organisations, helping them to better identify and manage child safety risks and ensure that sport in the region is a positive experience for everyone.

“We look forward to working with representatives from sporting organisations across the Central West and Western Plains at these workshops.”

Children’s Guardian, Steve Kinmond OAM, said
“These workshops will introduce participants to the many free resources the Office of the Children’s Guardian provides to help keep children safe.

“They’ll also teach participants what their club or organisation needs to do to comply with the legal requirements of the Child Safe Scheme and Working with Children Check in NSW.”
