RACV GOLDFIELDS PRESENTS HANGING EARTH, GROUNDED STARS EXHIBITION

RACV 3 mins read

ArtHouse at RACV Goldfields has unveiled Hanging Earth, Grounded Stars – an exhibition featuring artists from the Paradoxa Collective that invites viewers to contemplate the relationship between land and community, open now until 8 December.

The Paradoxa Collective artists – Penelope Aitken, Anna Farago, and Susan Wirth – have crafted beads from clay sourced at the nearby Creswick Clay Pit, that are suspended in an installation that connects the earth to the sky, reflecting on the Dja Dja Wurrung community’s concept of ‘our upside-down Country’.

RACV Head of Visual Arts Mardi Nowak said that Hanging Earth, Grounded Stars encourages visitors to engage with the idea of renewal through small acts of care and connection to our land.

“This is an exhibition that we’re really excited to share and it’s great that it utilises the natural materials surrounding RACV Goldfields, helping visitors explore the connection between people and places,” Ms Nowak said.

Under the installation, visitors will find cushions adorned with dung beetle designs—symbolising the important ecological role these creatures play in nourishing the land.

Additionally, the corridor gallery – located inside the Goldfields Resort, opposite the golf course pro shop – will showcase individual works from each artist, providing further context to the collective’s practice and their connection to the land.

Positioned amongst the mineral springs of Daylesford and the old city of Ballarat, RACV Goldfields Resort awaits discovery in the historic bushland around Creswick.

Those interested in attending the exhibition can combine it with booking an RACV Goldfields Getaway from $299 for two nights.  The RACV Goldfields Getaway includes a two-night stay, daily breakfast and one two-course dinner for two in Three Founders Restaurant, featuring local produce and seasonal ingredients – terms and conditions apply.

Additionally, if you’re an RACV Member, you will receive a complementary 9 holes of golf for two with an electric cart and $30 dining credit per stay. Book by 19 December, 2024 for stays until 20 December, 2024.  To book visit RACV Resort deals.

Replace capital gains discount with income averaging

The capital gains tax discount should be replaced with a fairer approach. A potential direction for reform would be to instead allow individuals to spread gains over time rather than taxing them in a single year, according to the e61 Institute. In a submission to the Senate Select Committee on the Operation of the Capital Gains Tax Discount, e61 said the discount is inequitable and distorts the way Australians work, save, invest, and finance their investments. “The current treatment of capital gains income incentivises individuals to invest in capital gains-generating assets, borrow too much, and reclassify earnings as capital gains,”…
