The Sydney Symphony Orchestra returns to Sydney Coliseum Theatre with a stellar line-up of vocalists for What the World Needs Now: A Celebration of Burt Bacharach

The Sydney Symphony Orchestra is returning to the stage of Greater Sydney’s Coliseum Theatre at Rooty Hill this December to celebrate one of the greatest songwriters of all times, Burt Bacharach.

What the World Needs Now: A Celebration of Burt Bacharach will feature notable voices David Campbell, Emma Pask, Elise McCann and Thndo performing chart topping songs performed by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra under the baton of highly regarded conductor Benjamin Northey.

Directed by Executive Producer, Mark Sutcliffe, the one-night only performance will feature some of Bacharach’s most memorable songs including What the World Needs Now, Alfie, Walk on By, I Say a Little Prayer, Close to You, One Less Bell to Answer, Any Day Now, That’s What Friends Are For.

What the World Needs Now: A Celebration of Burt Bacharach will be the third performance by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at The Coliseum as part of a partnership that saw it open the 2000 seat theatre developed by West HQ in December 2019 for ‘Christmas at the Coliseum’ with David Campbell. In 2022, the Sydney Symphony returned with ‘Rite of Spring’.

David Campbell, one of Australia’s most popular and versatile entertainers who has headlined theatre, cabaret and concert performances as well as being an ARIA-winning artist, said he was looking forward to returning to The Coliseum.
“Burt Bacharach is one of the great songwriters of the past hundred years - I grew up on his music, listening to great artists across decades sing his many, many hits,” he said.

“What the World Needs Now is more music and song, and I cannot wait to sing some of my favourites from this legendary musician.”

The connections between the performance and venue extend beyond the partnership and David Campbell, with artists who recorded Bacharach’s hits such as Cilla Black having performed at West HQ, when it was known as Rooty Hill RSL.
West HQ CEO, Richard Errington, said he was thrilled that Sydney Symphony kept returning, as it added to The Coliseum’s commitment of bringing diversity of entertainment to Greater Sydney.

“We have been the heart of entertainment for Sydney’s west for much of our 60 year history and we are pleased to be continuing this with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra presenting a
spectacular night of contemporary entertainment to honour one of the greatest musicians of our time,” he said.

Tickets for the Saturday, 14 December performance go on pre-sale on Wednesday, October 2, with General Public sales from October 4.
