Brisbane is about to get a whole lot more fun with the launch of the inaugural King St Kids Festival – an exciting new event celebrating the creativity, energy, and talent of young people in the local community!

The idea for the King St Kids Festival started when David Carberry, Executive Producer of the Wynnum Fringe Festival, moved to Bowen Hills two years ago with his family, including 6-year-old son, Whelan. New to the area, David wanted to connect with his community and create an event that highlighted the talents of young people, so he did what he does best – put on a festival!

“As an event producer and festival creator, it made sense to put something together that was fun and family-oriented,” David explained. “Whelan loves making jewelry and is really into breakdancing, so naturally, we wanted the festival to include a space for young creators and performers to shine.”

The festival has been made possible thanks to successful funding through the King St Community Grants Program by Lendlease, as well as support from the King St Community Advisory Committee and local businesses on King St. This year, the event is further supported by The Lord Mayor’s Community Fund and Cr Vicki Howard, who is a passionate advocate for the arts.

The King St Kids Festival promises a fun-filled afternoon for families, with ALL activities completely free! From breakdancing and circus performances to market stalls showcasing young creators, roving artists, face painting, a roller skating rink and more. The festival offers a platform for Brisbane’s best young artists and creatives to showcase their talents. Some festival highlights include:

  • Elements Collective, Brisbane’s best young breakdancers including Olympian B-boy J-Attack alongside his crew mates Jerome, BenMX and Valentino!.
  • A jaw-dropping performance from Circa Academy, one of the world’s leading youth circus companies.
  • 12-year-old DJ NOZARC, spinning tracks with the best from Quivr DJ School.
  • Mint Kids Hip Hop, featuring dancers aged 6-12.
  • The Next Gen Markets, a showcase of young artisans, makers, and entrepreneurs.
  • Kuts by Kids, where kids take over the Common Barber and give fun, crazy haircuts.
  • A roller disco, pop-up skate rink by Secret Roller Disco AU
  • Plus, roving entertainers, face painting, bubble activations, and food trucks!

Come on down to Alexandria Park on October 12th and join the fun! Whether you're a young artist, a family looking for a great day out, or just young at heart, the King St Kids Festival is where fun reigns, and creativity rules the day!
