Australian/US partnership launches Insider Threat and Security Awareness training to help APS and private enterprise mitigate biggest threat to Australia’s National Security

MPS People Security Risk Management 2 mins read

With over 35 years of security vetting experience for the Federal Government, MPS People Security Risk Management has partnered with renowned US based Clinical Psychologist and former Intelligence Officer, Dr Eric Shaw (Insider Risk Group, IRG) to develop innovative online insider threat and security awareness training - designed to help Australian businesses and government agencies strengthen their security posture and mitigate the risks posed by insiders.

The comprehensive online training program is designed for all employees and contractors and covers a wide range of topics including understanding, identifying and mitigating potential insider threats, employee and contractor security responsibilities, incident reporting, responses to employees of concern and fostering a strong security culture.

Dr Shaw has over 30 years of consultation experience to commercial organisations and the National Security Community and is considered a leading expert on insider threat - employees who commit espionage, sabotage, intellectual property theft, leak, fraud, risk of harm to self and others, and other workplace challenges. He is the author of the Critical Pathway to Insider Risk, the analytical framework widely used with Security and Insider Risk teams worldwide.

‘Insider threats pose a significant risk to organisations of all sizes, and it's crucial that employees and contractors are equipped with the knowledge and skills to recognise and address these threats, without inadvertently making them worse or damaging their culture,’ said Dr Shaw. ‘Our online training program is designed to provide a practical and engaging online learning experience that empowers organisations to proactively manage insider risks and protect their critical assets.’

‘Through our company, IRG, we have trained over 2500 professionals across five continents working in Security on Insider Threats on its Critical Pathway to Insider Risk framework, including hundreds of Australian government and contract personnel,’ Dr Shaw said.

The MPS People Security online training was developed to support ASIO Director-General, Mike Burgess’, Annual Threat Assessment 2024 – to encourage government and private enterprise to build security into the foundations of their enterprise as an enduring responsibility and to ‘Encourage security awareness training that moves beyond standard inductions and refreshers to more tailored continuous learning.’

The MPS People Security online training program is tailored to meet the specific needs of Australian businesses and government agencies, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, such as the Security of Critical Infrastructure (SOCI) Act 2018, the Defence Industry Security Program (DISP), and the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF). By completing the training, participants will gain a solid understanding of insider threats and learn how to act appropriately to protect their organisation.

MPS People Security Risk Management is supported by the AUKUS Forum, who are trailblazers in the new world of opportunities arising from the trilateral agreement.

The online Security and Insider Threat Awareness training program is now available for enrolment. For more information or to sign up, please visit www.mpspeoplesecurity.com.au.
