Autism Awareness Australia launches nation’s most comprehensive resource for families: ‘Navigating Autism - In The School Years’

Autism Awareness Australia is proud to announce the launch of ‘Navigating Autism - In the School Years’, a ground-breaking, free and accessible digital platform designed to support families of autistic children throughout their school years.

As the nation’s most comprehensive autism resource, “Navigating Autism – In the School Years’ covers more than 250 key topics, providing parents and carers with expert-backed tools and advice to help their children thrive both academically and emotionally.

The platform offers a one-stop destination for families looking for information tailored to the unique challenges autistic children face between the ages of 5 and 18.

From transitioning into school and managing friendships, to coping with puberty, mental health issues, and preparing for life after school, ‘Navigating Autism - In the School Years’ is an indispensable resource for families at every stage.

“We’ve designed this platform with real families in mind,” says Nicole Rogerson, Founder and CEO of Autism Awareness Australia.

“We listened to the experiences of autistic individuals, parents, carers, clinicians, and educators to create a tool that’s not only comprehensive but addresses many topics that are often ignored.”

“This is the most comprehensive, evidence-based family friendly resource available today, providing parents with practical and easy to digest interactive tools, videos and articles.”

“The disability landscape is going through some major reform right now and that’s why it’s even more critical that we double down on the support to families.”

“We know that families in remote areas often struggle to find support, by making this resource digital and free, we’re ensuring every family can access expert advice, no matter where they live,” Ms Rogerson says.

Collaboration and Evidence-Based Content

The platform was developed through a collaborative effort involving the autism community, including autistic individuals, parents, educators, and healthcare professionals.

The content is grounded in evidence-based research and covers a range of crucial topics including communication skills, NDIS navigation, mental health, and educational strategies.

Autism Awareness Australia is committed to empowering families by giving them access to trusted, up-to-date information and strategies that have been vetted by experts and designed with real-world challenges in mind.

EPA COMMENCES PROSECUTIONS AGAINST THREE COMPANIES IN RESPONSE TO ASBESTOS IN MULCH INVESTIGATION

The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has commenced a suite of prosecutions against three companies and one individual in response to its asbestos in mulch investigation. The prosecutions follow the largest investigation in the EPA’s history which was launched after bonded asbestos was discovered in mulch at Rozelle Parklands. During the investigation over 300 sites were inspected, with 79 sites identified as having used contaminated mulch. All 79 sites have now been cleaned up by owners. A total of 102 alleged offences have been charged against VE Resource Recovery Pty Ltd (1 charge), the sole director of VE Resource Recovery…

VEOLIA LANDFILL FINED FOR FAILING TO MANAGE LEACHATE LEVELS

The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has issued a $30,000 fine to Veolia for failing to adequately manage leachate levels at its Newline Road landfill in Raymond Terrace near Newcastle. The EPA found that Veolia has not complied with requests to progressively cap, or seal, the landfill, a crucial measure to prevent the rainwater getting into the waste stored on site. This failure has led to increased volumes of leachate, a wastewater generated by landfill operations, creating a potential risk to groundwater, nearby wetlands and the Williams River. EPA Executive Director Operations Jason Gordon said the EPA takes the protection…

Assess NT fracking under national environment law

Concerns raised by an independent expert scientific committee should prompt Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek to use her expanded water trigger powers to assess Northern Territory gas fracking proposals, the Australian Conservation Foundation said. While the ‘plain English summary’ of the Expert Scientific Committee on Unconventional Gas says the potential impacts on the Beetaloo Basin’s water resources from exploration activities would be ‘minor’, that description is not used in the rest of the report. The panel states that exploration activities ‘will likely lead to further production, exploration and appraisal which will inevitably intensify impacts.’ “The whole purpose of initial gas fracking…
