Beneficiary of community benefit payment

General Insurance Code Governance Committee < 1 mins read

We are pleased to announce that we have selected registered charity Northern Rivers Community Gateway as the beneficiary of the community benefit payment from an insurer following its sanction in June 2024.

We invited a wide range of organisations to be considered for the payment and decided on a shortlist of the best candidate charities based on their work and impact. Following review of the shortlist, we selected Northern Rivers Community Gateway as the recipient for its community programs and activities in several communities.

Northern Rivers Community Gateway is dedicated to grass-roots welfare support and capacity building services for disadvantaged people and communities in Lismore and northern New South Wales.

It has undertaken extensive work supporting communities affected by the devastating floods of 2022.

The $50,000 community benefit payment comes from an insurer as part of the sanction we issued for serious breaches of the Code of Practice.

Community benefit payments form an integral element in a sanction, offering tangible support to communities in addition to reinforcing accountability for insurers and strengthening trust in the regulatory oversight of the industry.
