Celebrating a century: North Sydney Resident Shirley Briggs turns 100

North Sydney Council < 1 mins read

Mayor Baker of North Sydney joined the 100th birthday celebration of Ms. Shirley Briggs, a lifelong North Sydney resident whose family roots date back to their arrival in Australia in the 19th century.

Born and raised in North Sydney, Shirley has spent the past 64 years in Milsons Point. Known for her independent spirit, Shirley credits her longevity and sharp mind to "never marrying," a life choice she believes has kept her thriving with humour and vitality in the place she loves.

During the celebration held at Greenway, Shirley reflected on her connection to North Sydney, saying: “I have been here all my life and haven’t been anywhere else. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. My mother and her parents were born in this area.”

The celebration was a heartwarming tribute to Shirley’s enduring presence and the rich history of North Sydney, which she has witnessed and contributed to over the past century.
