A new era of exams for CSSA & Gradeo

Past papers of the CSSA Trial Exams will be available to students of the NSW syllabus for the first time under a ground-breaking partnership between CSSA and Gradeo.

Operating since 1967, CSSA is the state's premium provider of Trial HSC examinations for Year 12 students, delivering over 200,000 Trial HSC Examinations across 47 HSC courses and nearly 600 schools each year.

Used by nearly two-thirds of NSW students, CSSA Trial HSC examinations are written and assessed by education experts.

As NESA shifts HSC exams online, schools and teachers across New South Wales will now have an accessible option for rigorous, high-quality online test materials.

Gradeo is an education technology company specialising in online assessment to support teachers to assess and students to sit assessments through changing technology. Gradeo combines cutting-assessment technology with trusted test instruments.

“Good assessment is the bedrock of valid measurement of student progress, but it can be time-consuming to develop or source for teachers” said CSNSW CEO Dallas McInerney.

“The CSSA-Gradeo partnership will bring CSSA into the digital era and demonstrates our commitment to quality, accessibility and innovation”, said CSSA Head of Assessment Monica O’Brien.

The Partnership will give subscribers access to nearly 300 tests and 15,000 questions, all mapped to current NSW syllabuses, enabling them to author, test, grade and report on a single platform.

“Almost every current and former HSC student in NSW has sat a CSSA exam at some point. The brand is trusted for its quality. We’re thrilled they’ve chosen Gradeo to propel this offering into hundreds of schools across NSW,” said Gradeo Founder Alex Dore.

Why This Matters: Quality, Accessibility, and Innovation in HSC Preparation

The CSSA trial exams are the benchmark for quality, syllabus-aligned HSC preparation in New South Wales, widely respected by schools, teachers, and students. By joining forces with Gradeo, CSSA is making its resources accessible in a digital format for the first time, allowing students to study smarter, track progress in real time, and benefit from AI-supported feedback and insights.

This partnership will:

  • Be available to Gradeo users from February
  • Save teacher time by creating a term’s worth of syllabus-aligned quizzes and exams for your classes within minutes across over 45 subjects.
  • Mark exam responses for an entire class within minutes and generate detailed improvement insights.
  • Gives students access to a powerful database of past papers, generate their own, or choose their own study adventure with quizzes and powerful reporting insights.

Union scores major win in fight against university wage theft

The National Tertiary Education Union has welcomed the Fair Work Ombudsman ordering $23 million in stolen wages to be repaid to University of Sydney staff. The decision marks the second significant win for workers this week after it was revealed the University of Melbourne would repay $72 million owed to staff. Both enforceable undertakings incorporate a commitment to embedding a voice for workers that gives a direct role for unions to raise wage theft and workplace law compliance with management. NTEU members have fought hard for an end to systemic wage theft in higher education, with more than 30 universities…
