GEOGRAPHY BRINGS HSC EXAMS TO AN END AS MORE THAN 80,000 NSW STUDENTS AWAIT RESULTS

NSW Education Standards Authority 2 mins read

The 2024 Higher School Certificate (HSC) exams will come to an end today, as 4,723 students prepare to sit Geography from 9:25am, the last exam for the period.

This year, 71,619 students are set to leave high school with their HSC – the largest cohort in the country and in NSW history. Another 8,547 students, many who are not yet in Year 12, have also now completed at least one HSC course.

Over the past 19 days, over 400,000 unique exam sessions have been successfully carried out - a testament to the preparation of principals, teachers, exam staff and students.

Marking is now underway, with over 5,500 markers assessing more than 9 million pages, ahead of results being released on 18 December.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Early Learning Prue Car said:

“To the HSC Class of 2024, you have done it – exams are complete. Thirteen years of school are officially over and your next adventure awaits.

“As students move in to graduation celebrations and await results – I want to remind our graduating class of 2024 - there are many pathways to reach your goals.

“Move forward now, with all of the knowledge and skills you have developed over your schooling careers. They will prepare you for further studies, work, training and life

“I would also like to recognise the contribution of the people who have supported all of our students to reach this point: your teachers, families and carers.”

NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Chief Executive Officer Paul Martin said:

“What a mammoth 19 days. Over 400,000 exams conducted at over 750 exam centres, presided over by 7,500 exam staff.

“This is a huge operation for schools and exam staff – but an even bigger milestone for the HSC Class of 2024 leaving their high school careers behind.

“Students - give yourself a pat on the back. You have worked hard, taken care of yourselves and each other and given the exams your all.

“Take some time to unwind now, ahead of results release in December. Your next adventure is just around the corner.”

New Approach To International Education Inconsistent And Lacks Integrity

The Australian Government’s newly announced policy approach for the international education sector is causing significant frustration and uncertainty for members of the Independent Tertiary Education Council Australia (ITECA). ITECA is the peak body representing independent skills training, higher education, and international education providers. The approach, framed as a legal exercise under the Migration Act 1958 (Cth), follows Parliament’s failure to pass amendments to the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 (Cth) after four days of public hearings through a Senate Committee that also included more than 260 submissions where the adverse outcomes of Australian Government policy were laid bare…

The Independent Education Union of Australia NSW/ACT Branch, which represents teachers and support staff in non-government schools, has been negotiating with the AIS since May to distil 10 separate agreements into just three new MEAs, one for teachers and two for professional and operational…
