Mt Henry Bridge Engineering Heritage Marker unveiling
29 November 2024 from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm
Deepwater Point, Mt Pleasant, WA
Engineers Australia invites media to the unveiling of the Engineering Heritage Marker heritage marker for the iconic Mt Henry Bridge, Western Australia’s longest combined road and rail bridge. This engineering marvel connects Perth’s CBD to the southern suburbs and industrial hubs, showcasing two side-by-side structures built 20 years apart using innovative techniques.
The original bridge employed a groundbreaking falsework-supported segmental box construction, avoiding costly mid-span supports with a cable-stayed tower. The second structure used the incremental launch technique, blending efficiency with ingenuity.
This event will honour the engineers, designers, and builders who played pivotal roles in these landmark projects. The unveiling of the Engineering Heritage Marker by Engineers Australia will recognise their outstanding contributions and the bridge’s lasting impact on Perth’s infrastructure.
Event opens and guests arrive from 9.30am
