Chartered Accountants ANZ Chief Executive Officer, Ainslie van Onselen, said:

“Small businesses, in partnership with their Chartered Accountant, can use this rich data to better understand where they sit amongst their peers, while entrepreneurs can make more informed decisions about future ventures.”

“Whether setting up, buying, or selling a small business, being able to understand how that sector is performing and what the future might look for that business, is vital. It will also help small business owners and entrepreneurs make better budgeting, forecasting, risk management and valuation assessments,” she said.

“Chartered Accountants ANZ represents nearly 140,000 financial professionals and we are continually searching for new ways to equip our members to provide the best possible advice to their clients.

“Small and medium-sized businesses are also the focus of economic policy and political discussion. This report will be useful for those discussions as it provides insights on the state of play across Australia,” she said.

The numbers for each small business sector included in this release are based off the median for a small business with 5-19 employees. There is considerable variation in performance across, and within, industries.

Data for the analysis is based on the company tax returns of the population of Australian SMEs in the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Business Longitudinal Analysis Data Environment.

TALENT ALERT | Coalition split shows credible climate policy key to electoral success

With the National Party walking away from a Federal Coalition with the Liberal Party, it’s clear that any party lacking credible climate policies is bothunelectable and unsustainable. The Federal Election results were a clear mandate for stronger climate action and a criticism of politicians who deny climate science. Available for comment: Nic Seton, CEO, Parents for Climate “The Coalition is now publicly divided on climate policy — and parents who want a safe climate for their kids are watching. We need leadership that puts our children’s future ahead of political point-scoring, something both parties have the opportunity to demonstrate now.”…

Climate denial nukes Coalition as Australians call for more climate action

FORIMMEDIATE RELEASE TUESDAY 20 MAY 2025 Climate denial nukes Coalition as Australians call for more climate action The Nationals Party decision to keep denying climate science, and walk away from the Liberal Party, will hurt their constituents in the bush. Together they were a political drag on Australia’s clean energy momentum. And yet many in the…

Rate cut welcome: more needed

ACOSS has welcomed today’s interest rate cut and is calling for further cuts in coming months to ease financial pressure on people struggling. “Today’s rate cut is hugely important for people on low and modest incomes who have been worst affected by financial pressures,” said ACOSS CEO Dr Cassandra Goldie. “We need further cuts to allow incomes to grow and reduce extremely high levels of financial stress amongst people with the least. “With inflation now consistently within the RBA’s target range, there is no justifiable reason to keep interest rates at high levels. “The priority now should be to grow…
