New Return and Earn machine makes recycling easy in Inverell

Return and Earn 2 mins read

Inverell residents have a new location to recycle their eligible bottles, cartons and cans with the opening of a Return and Earn machine at The Bolt Shop.

As the second return point in the Inverell area, it is now even more convenient for local community members to redeem their eligible bottles and cans to get the 10c refund.

Inverell Shire residents are enthusiastic recyclers, having returned more than 39 million eligible bottles, cans and cartons through local return points since Return and Earn started,” said James Dorney, CEO of TOMRA Cleanaway, network operator for Return and Earn.

Recyclers using the machine can print a voucher for the refund amount, which can be redeemed for cash at Coles, or they can opt for an e-voucher or payment directly into their bank or PayPal account using the Return and Earn app.

Locals can also choose to donate their refund to one of over 300 donation partners listed on the Return and Earn app or to the current statewide donation partner Foodbank NSW & ACT.

Foodbank is a food relief charity providing much needed assistance to individuals and families across NSW and the ACT.

Return and Earn has become a key fundraising channel for many charities and community groups in NSW. More than $62 million has been raised from donations and fees from hosting return points since the scheme launched in 2017.

Over 12 billion drink containers have been returned for recycling through the Return and Earn network of over 640 return points across NSW, resulting in more than $1.2 billion in refunds back to the community.

“I encourage everyone to make Return and Earn a part of your routine, to help reduce litter, protect the environment and get a bit of extra cash for your efforts,” said Mr. Dorney.

The Return and Earn The Bolt Shop Inverell machine is located in the car park at 95B Ring St, Inverell. It will be open daily from 7:00am to 10:00pm.

As COP29 negotiations continue in Baku, Monash University's award-winning podcast, What Happens Next?, launches a timely two-part series examining how better storytelling and community-led solutions transform climate action across the Indo-Pacific region. The series examines how storytelling shapes our understanding of climate change in the Indo-Pacific region, challenging oversimplified narratives and celebrating community resilience to inspire action in addressing the region's most pressing challenge. “As humans, we instinctively use storytelling to make sense of complex issues like climate change. Oxfam reaction to Australian Government Asian Development Bank (ADB) climate change loans

In response to the announcement that the Australian Government will guarantee up to AUD$300 million worth of Asian Development Bank (ADB) climate change lending for the Pacific and South-East Asia, Oxfam Australia Policy and Advocacy Lead, Josie Lee, says: “We are disappointed that the Australian Government has announced money for loans at this time, when negotiations are so tense and one of the big concerns from low-income countries has been the provision of debt creating loans, rather than real money to respond to the climate crisis. “This announcement is at odds with the demands from low-income countries for grant-based finance.…
