More than 3,000 people will attend a record-breaking AusRAIL 2024, the Asia Pacific’s largest rail industry event, at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre next week.
AusRAIL 2024 will feature more than 150 exhibitors and over 100 local and international speakers on Tuesday 26 November and Wednesday 27 November with behind-the-scenes site tours at the Gold Coast Light Rail Depot and the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP) facility on Thursday November 28.
Australasian Railway Association (ARA) Chief Executive Officer Caroline Wilkie said AusRAIL 2024 is a major highlight on the rail industry calendar, bringing together government and industry leaders and key decision-makers to discuss the challenges and opportunities for rail.
“Our industry is experiencing a once-in-a-generation investment in rail infrastructure, with major projects underway here in Queensland, and a significant focus on continuing to drive increased patronage across the rail network,” Ms Wilkie said.
“This ‘renaissance of rail’ is exciting but there are challenges ahead to ensure we continue to have a sustainable, thriving industry that meets demand and provides an efficient, modern service for the community.
“AusRAIL 2024 is an important opportunity to discuss how to best address challenges such as workforce shortages, decarbonisation, the urgent need to get more freight on rail and progressing a national approach to the harmonisation of standards.”
The comprehensive program will include presentations from Queensland Trains CEO Kat Stapleton on preparing for the Brisbane Olympics 2032 and lessons learnt from the Paris Olympics experience, Tim Parker, CEO of High Speed Rail Authority, and an update on the National Rail Action Plan by Carolyn Walsh, Chair and Commissioner, National Transport Commission.
AusRAIL 2024 will also feature panel discussions on signalling, public transport and productivity, safety and future skills, and 14 separate technical sessions covering 20+ specialised topics including workforce and diversity, sustainability, passenger rail, technology, innovation, safety and asset management.
World champion surfer Layne Beachley AO, a passionate advocate for mental resilience, equality and the environment, will deliver the keynote presentation and share valuable insights on leadership, purpose and peak performance.
