Rewiring Australia welcomes huge rooftop solar milestone

Rewiring Australia < 1 mins read

Rewiring Australia has called for further household electrification incentives after Australia hit the incredible milestone of four million homes with rooftop solar.

“Australian households are showing the world how to reduce emissions and bills and electrification will deliver even greater impact,” said Dan Cass, Executive Director of Rewiring Australia.

“This country’s rooftop solar is the world’s cheapest-delivered source of energy and that is what is driving this household energy revolution.

“The 4 million household milestone is a momentous achievement that demonstrates the power of community action and smart government policy.”

One in three Australian homes now have solar panels installed.

“Rooftop solar is the keystone of the bridge to a healthier world without high energy costs of fossil fuels,” said Mr Cass.

“To truly unlock the economic and environmental benefits of solar power, we need to help households electrify by replacing gas appliances with efficient electric alternatives, like heat pumps, induction stoves, and electric water heaters.

“Electrification and battery storage multiplies the cost-of-living benefits of the clean, cheap energy flowing from our rooftops.”

Rewiring Australia is calling for the federal government to offer zero-interest, deferred-repayment loans for all Australian residences to install solar, batteries, and efficient electric appliances.

Make Big Polluters Pay

Treasurer must levy big coal and gas corporations to fund climate disasters Make Big Polluters Pay

Climate disasters are projected to cost the federal budget $6.3 billion in the upcoming mid-year economic forecast this week. Climate disasters already cost the economy $38 billion each year, with households, communities, local governments and small businesses paying to recover from extreme weather. These impacts are also driving up insurance premiums, food prices and household bills. Deloitte projects disaster costs will exceed…
