A Christmas Blessing: Tucker Fresh IGA Rewards Local Shopper with $10,000 Credit

Tucker Fresh IGA is proud to announce the winner of our highly anticipated One Million Points Competition. Thousands of entries were submitted by loyal customers across our 12 stores, and today, we are excited to reveal that the winner is Barbara Simmonds from our Carine store. Barbara, a dedicated shopper at Tucker Fresh IGA for many years, has been awarded $10,000 in-store credit, providing her with much-needed relief during this holiday season.

The winning entry was drawn at our Kinross store, recently named Australian Store of the Year for IGA. Executive Partner Poojan Shah and Manager Patrick Kelly took part in the excitement by stepping into the giant cash grab machine to select the lucky winner in front of a delighted crowd.

Barbara, who has lived in the area for over 30 years, expressed her gratitude and excitement: “I never shop anywhere else. We love how friendly the staff here are!” She recalled the moment she learned of her win: “There was a message left on my voicemail, and when I heard it, I was very excited and may have screamed a little – then wondered if it was a scam. I called Tucker Fresh and was very happy to find out it was legitimate!”

Barbara also shared, “We are not hosting Christmas this year, so we won’t need to use much straight away. But we’ll see what the new year brings.”

In the current economic climate, where rising costs are impacting households across the community, Tucker Fresh IGA is dedicated to providing value and support to its customers. “We understand how challenging these times can be, and every dollar saved at the checkout makes a difference,” said Poojan Shah. “This competition is just one of the ways we aim to give back to the community that has supported us so generously. Congratulations to Barbara, and thank you to everyone who participated.”

Tucker Fresh IGA remains committed to helping families manage their grocery budgets while delivering quality products and exceptional service. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all our customers for their loyalty and encourage everyone to continue shopping locally for the best in value and care.

Enough Recalls: The Safety Testing Gap Putting Our Children at Risk

Key Facts: Australia has no blanket requirement for mandatory pre-market safety testing for many children’s products labelled “3+”, unless a specific hazard standard applies (such as button batteries or magnets). Mandatory safety standards primarily apply to toys for children up to and including 36 months, and to products with identified risks such as button batteries or magnets. In 2024–25, the ACCC published 248 product recalls, many involving consumer goods that posed potential hazards to children. Recent recalls have included asbestos-contaminated children’s sand products and popular retail toys recalled due to serious choking risks. Consumer safety advocates and industry experts are…
