The Murrumbidgee community will launch a major campaign to oppose cuts to Cootamundra Hospital services at a public rally this Saturday, December 14th.
The campaign launch will take place at 10am at Jubilee Park, Cootamundra, with State Member for Cootamundra, Ms Steph Cooke MP, Cootamundra-Gundagai Mayor, Abb McAlister, and Deputy Mayor Rosalind Wight in attendance.
Between 500 and 1,000 local residents are expected to attend the rally, where a petition opposing the cuts will be launched for presentation to NSW Parliament.
The campaign follows ongoing concerns about the proposed closure of Cootamundra's pathology lab, which provides crucial support to the hospital's theatre lists and maternity unit.
"The community's message is clear – these cuts to local health services are unacceptable," said HSU Secretary Gerard Hayes. "This is an issue that transcends politics. It's about protecting essential health services for the region."
"The closure of Cootamundra's pathology lab would mean longer wait times for critical diagnostic information and could compromise patient care, particularly in emergency situations. We're calling on the NSW Government to reverse this decision and ensure our community has access to the health services it deserves."
The petition will call on the NSW Parliament to maintain current service levels at Cootamundra Hospital and reject any proposed cuts to pathology services in the region.
